I'm thinking about making a trip up to Missouri within the next two weeks to fish a couple trout streams. Probably the Current River and couple other surrounding spring creeks such as Little Piney Creek.
The Current river has a healthy population of browns and rainbows, while a few of the spring creeks have beautiful stream born trout that are a hybrid of McCloud redbands and the Arlee strain. Along the way I'll likely stop in at the Little Red River in Heber Springs, AR.
Looking at staying two, maybe three nights, total and will probably just tie my pack-hammock up between two trees – maybe at a campground. Weather currently is 80s / 60s.
If anyone wants to go, my dates are flexible, just let me know.

Sounds like a blast. Current is one of favorites up there. Little piney is really cool too but I haven’t spent a whole of time on that one. Wish I could go but headed to south fork, co on Saturday and spending a week up there. Don’t know if you’re much of a smallmouth guy, but there’s a ton of good smallmouth water in that area as well.

I think I'd rather be going to South Fork, CO. I haven't fished smallmouth much, mostly been a by-catch while stripping streamers in the early summer / late spring.

I need to save my vacation time for when I get promoted to “grandpa” sometime around September 1st.

Guys, if you fish the LR, you might try the "Swinging Bridge" (which is no longer there), AKA "Barnett Access." Take the trail that looks like it puts you more downstream, and wade downstream and fish. Fish near the banks and just off the frog-watery stuff using sowbugs. Sowbugs are little bits of charcoal gray yarn on about a 14 hook, nothing much more than that. The trout live on them there and they're close to the bank. "Cow Shoals" or "JFK" I know nothing about, but they're the other well-known spots.

Congratulations. It’s wonderful, even now being married to a grandma is alright lol
Warning. It gets expensive at places like the Cracker Barrel because you eat then you start looking at the baby clothes

Darrell,
Congratulations on the new addition and future fly fisher. I agree with turfdawg, stay away from cracker barrel or any strip mall that has a "Baby" store. Luckily we only have one new born granddaughter with 7 under 6 and 3 older 16 up to 22.

I think all four of their trout parks are catch and release only starting November 1st of each year and runs until the last day in February. I've fished Montauk on a 20º day in February and the park was virtually empty. It's kind of ridiculous, though, you can stand in one run and set on 20 rainbows. Now, the blue ribbon section just downstream of Montauk park is pretty nice, a number of wild browns. I haven't fished Roaring River.

Yes, that's currently still my plan. However, I'll likely need to be here for the better part of the day on Thanksgiving, then drive up that night.

I'll probably stay later on Sunday to fish Little Piney Creek – just down the road – they have a gorgeous wild McCloud redbands / Arlee strain hybrid population.
