So for those who did not make it last year, trout camp looks something like this. People start showing up Friday and picking out a tent site. When you get to Fern, look for the hand painted sign that says Trout Camp and has a trout on it. The fire’s already going and a few of us have already been fishing. Waders hanging from a tree air-drying, rods still strung. Beverages in hand, adult and otherwise. Smoke curling off the end of a Cuban seed toro. Couple of grills get lit later on, charcoals get right, steaks, burgers, whatever you brought gets tossed on the grill. Jonbo backs his trailer in and joins the party with his pal Johnnie W. As more logs are tossed in the fire to ward off December’s chill, Darrelno9 reminds us that this is considered shirt sleeves weather in North Dakota. A cool Frenchman shows up after dark and cooks some camembert cheese and a couple of baguettes in the fire. Couple of bottles of wine. Danimal is delighted and has waited a year for more of this cheese and wine. People from this board sharing fishing reports and telling fish stories, some may even have a glimmer of truth and a photo to back them up. Campfire smoke, lots of laughs. Also that night, Smallfry shows up with a bottle or two of firewater. The party is on. Next morning, those who didn’t drink are up early, brewing coffee in a couple of big percolators over a Coleman stove, no doubt banging around and making way too much noise. Coffee up, waders on, few of us head to that morning’s spot. Jeff has his bottle of Coke and Magick is ready for a walk. MIRVc17 has already been in the river for an hour and caught 5 fish. Campfire smoke still in the air, early winter’s crisp air in Beavers Bend State Park, Kiamichi country. Some head to the Beavers Bend Fly Shop to buy some flies and fresh tippet, others just to say hi to Eddie and Roberta. Park is mostly empty of people, just the way we like it. Man I can’t wait for Trout Camp. This is awesome! I'd love to join in if I can break away.

No excuses. You're in, like Frank and his family.

Tossing some feelers out there to see if there are any fishermen that are planning on attending that might be interested in some guided time (I would volunteer) over the weekend? I haven't been as active as I once was but I'm sure there are a few guys on here who remember the days when I used to catch fish :-P
This would be with Coach's blessing of course but I'd love to help a few guys up their fishing game over that weekend if they are interested. I'm pretty confident I'll be attending.

The Splake population has been decimated by the hordes of stringers since the floods. I hope we see the Browns move up when the logs come out this year. I have yet to break the 20" mark on a Brown at LMF. Brad is very good at spotting fish and figuring a way to get them to eat. I hear they like steak and eggs Brad, Frank, Evan, Sue, Nav51..... it is a good time for sure. And yes, fly shop rents waders. We have participants in Cabins, RV's, tents, and I think Gui sleeps in the car. If the logs are out, the runs below Fern can be a good place to hang out and do some Euro, too.

Haven't tried Euro yet but have studied up on it a bit. Even built a couple of leaders. Hoping to get in some practice if the wife and I make it to LMF in October.

I like how we refer to “the Floods” in Biblical proportions. The floods! The floods!

I plan on participating this year. I planned on it last year but I forgot about a family event I was committed too. I've been doing nothing but Euro nymphing for the past year and would love to fish with some of you that are trying the Euro style. I would not say I'm good at it but I will say I've been catching a lot of fish using that style of fishing. But more importantly, I would like to put a face to the names on this forum!

Cabin dwellers and camper folks definitely welcome. Based on the interest so far, we may end up overflowing into the Elm Tent Campsite right next to Fern. Works for me.

I’m cool with whatever, but I am not tent camping next to someone’s generator. That sucks.

I've been looking forward to 2018 Trout Camp since the last Trout Camp. Unfortunately I think it is on same weekend as our annual Christmas Party...will be out 15th year. I'm trying to get it moved a week so we (my son James and co-worker Eliseo and myself) can attend. So much fun last year despite the crazy cold. I'm seriously thinking about a cabin this year though. I know I'll sleep better and have a lot less to haul though it was an adventure last year.

I'm in a euro state of mind. Been euro-ing up a storm. Hasn't done me much good, yet. Hey, I'll have 2 available bunks in my little camper for anyone who isn't tough enough to freeze their ar$e off in a tent or car. Wifey ain't coming. She and daughter doing some girly stuff in LR that weekend. Only trouble is, I'll only be there for Friday and Saturday night.

I always thought that Euro style was just wearing tweed. So it's actually a fishing style? :-P

For some reason I think of "Euro style" as U2's Bono circa Achtung Baby time-frame (1991 was a good year)... you know what I'm talking about--big (what I like to call Fly eyes) sunglasses, flowing dark hair, all black clothes, skinny pants, cigarette in hand, fly rod in the other... and on your way to the Discotheque after a hard day of slinging Euro nymphs.......

"Fly fishing bores me. Lets go disco!" Flings rod into river, begins gyrating around. Falls down. Thrashes around in river some more.

Gui is required to be there with his cheese and wine. Wife this time, too. Hankinsfly - you forgot about the PoPo giving Magick and I grief about the leash laws. Never mind the poachers, marijuana, and brown trout on stringers. Gonna be a blast! Catching up with this thread... I concur, 2017 trout camp was awesome! Big props to Hankinsfly to launch the initiative. I really enjoyed meeting board members and sharing cheese and wine with y'all! I marked my calendar for trout camp 2018 and will make sure to bring some good stuff. And yes, hopefully you'll get to meet my better half this time. Besides being obviously a better angler than me, she also makes some killer curry on the fire. One thing that I'm better at though is standing in the cold, so we'll see...
