I've been reading people mentioning something called stop logs that get removed during the winter months.
What exactly are stop logs and why is it such a good thing? And where are they located on the river?

They are crossties at flyshop bridge and swim beach bridge stacked on top of each other to dam up the river in those areas for the canoes and swimming area. In the winter they remove some so the river is almost wade able all the way to the power house

Is the fishing there as good as the EH and spillway stretch?

It opens up the day use area witch I really like some of that strech at times. Opens up a lot of areas

I’ve had some good fishing in that run from the swim beach bridge up to the flat water. Would like to explore this area more when the $@@$@@ stop logs come out. This autumn-like weather has me looking forward to trout camp.

A lot of that area is more suited to spin/bait fishermen, even with stop logs out. Kind of slower moving featureless water. Like turfdawg mentioned, day use area right in the middle between the two bridges can be great. Kind of hit or miss at time but when it’s on it’s on.

Day use is a special place when bugs are present..... it is under 5' of water when logs are in. SOme really nice riffles and cuts and runs when logs are out.

I’ll take one for the team and go remove the stop logs myself for trout camp.

No, but to the original question: At the upper end of the Swim Beach area a fine riffle opens up when the stop logs are out. Also, as Jeff mentioned, the Day Use Area, just slightly above Fern Campground, you access it through a steel gate on the campground loop road, is really nice during stop-log-out season.
