When I drive around the Park while fishing, I keep my waders on. To protect the seat I lay a towel down on it. I fished there last about 2 weeks ago. Well today I picked up that towel from where I'd tossed it behind the seat of my truck. Stuck to it was a mayfly nymph that must have stuck to my waders while I fished, then transferred to the towel. It was all dried up, but otherwise very well preserved. It looked in color and proportions just about like a Hare's Ear nymph. This reminds me. Several years ago I was catching quite a few fish on a Hare's Ear. Somehow I had gotten away from them Hmmm. May be time to revisit.
Oh! And it was pretty big. Maybe a 12?

Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Numph, aka BHGRHEN, is an easy fly to tie, and it is very effective on the Lower Mountain Fork River, aka LMF, aka Beavers Bend.
It'll make you wanna shout Peanut Butter and Jelly! 😂

Did you take a pic?

No, I wish I had. I tried to lift it off of the towel and it disintegrated.

Jonbo, I’m going to tie some hare’s ears for a summer trip. Also, Gierach said to fish the Hare’s Ear Parachute dry fly, so I’m going to tie some of those also. I’ve not personally caught many fish on a hares ear nymph, but that’s only because I don’t nymph fish as much as I should, and when I do, it’s usually with a Pheasant Tail and a few other nymphs. Hare’s Ears are fun to tie, I’ll say that.

A fly that does well for me is the Guides Choice Hare’s Ear variation in a small size, 16-20, with a red collar and tungsten bead 👌🏼

Stephen, I tie and fish mostly Pheasant Tails too, for nymphs, but I'm not sure why I do that over Hare's Ears. Aaron, I'm going to have to look those up and try them.

I did pretty good on a size 14 flash back hares ear with a red hotspot last weekend. Good bug.
