I have spin fished fished for trout for a number of years on the White and Norfork Rivers. I recently decided to focus on fly fishing and I would love to fish LMF several times per month while in area for work. Last thing I want to do is upset someone fishing an area. What are the general rules that a new fly fisherman should follow when approaching a section of the river? I apologize if this was addressed before, I looked around but could not find anything. Thanks, great stuff on here by the way!

Man we had like a 5 page knock down drag out on this last week lol. Look under the thread quiet time and bring some popcorn.
As far as general etiquette goes, the river can get pretty crowded and I think the main thing that annoys most anglers is spacing. If you’re gonna hop in the river try to give the person next to you as much room as you can. If it’s questionable, maybe just say hey do you mind if I fish right here? Other than that you should be good honestly. Just be mindful of spacing. If someone is really slaying them and you ask them them what fly they are using I think some anglers can consider that rude but if you just say something like hey I’m new to this, noticed you were killing them, do you mind giving me some pointers? I think most people would be glad to share info with you then.

I went down the rabbit hole on the “quiet time” thread. Thanks for responding. I’m just going to be respectful, give other anglers space, and enjoy the scenery/fishing. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t listen to Eurodain. He’s full of bad ideas.

That's been a really good spot for me in the past, especially right where you're standing. The bigger fish seemed to hold in the deeper water just down from the falls.
The last time I fished that spot with the stop logs out, I caught some really pretty holdover fish. They like the deeper water of the river bend, and they like to feed on whatever is emerging.
That guy, as far as LMF 'rules of etiquette' goes, is not too bad. If I had gotten that close to another angler, I would have certainly asked if it were OK.
I know that area well enough to know that he 'cut you off' from fishing anywhere else but right where you're standing. The water gets too deep to wade, and the bank is too soft to walk on. Reading other posts about river flow, you can't cross the river, either.
I do hope you swung some soft hackles and some streamers from where you're standing.

That guy is definitely inconsiderate but I wouldn’t be too mad about him hopping into that spot. You can fit two or three other anglers in between you and the top of that waterfall. Also, the whole bank downstream of you holds fish as well, probably for at least 50-75 yards is good water.

I'm glad he deleted it. LOL. I actually recognized the guy as one of my fishing buddies. He was wearing a sling pack and dressed exactly as my friend.
