It's been a while since I've posted much that's worth while (if this counts). I haven't fished since December, but finally got a chance. Some vacation days meant a trip with the family to the mountains not far away. We stayed in a nice little cabin on Bear Creek right outside of Evergreen, CO.
The forecast wasn't great, but we decided to go for it. When we arrived it was snowing, but the river looked great and it wasn't very cold out. After getting settled in, I rigged up and began a slay fest. The river is just slightly larger than the Cimarron and the water was perfect for Euro style nymphing. I broke out the Chinese 10' 3 WT and started killing it. Beautiful browns and rainbows were plenty. After 45 mins I had over 20 fish. The night was spent relaxing near the fire and drinking some cold beer.
The next day, my youngest son, Sonny wanted to fish with me and did great. He caught two off a Tungsten Surveyor and hooked into a really nice fish that popped up right before I could net it--it was big for this river. My other son Jack also slayed a couple of fish and even caught one off a spent CDC BWO spinner dry fly. I caught another 10 or so and we called it a day and had other activities planned. Later in the evening I caught some more while waiting for the charcoal to get hot for some grilled hot dogs.
The next morning, Sonny and I went out for one last round. His indicator rig wasn't working that great and he wanted to try Euro. He used my 10 footer and caught 4 in about 20 minutes--I think he's got the technique down better than I do, haha... Not bad for an 8 year old.
Pictures to follow...

That sounded like a great time. Glad you had fun. Would you please PM me the name of the cabin if it’s within walking distance to the river

It’s no secret spot. It’s Bear Creek cabins. They are right on the river. I don’t believe a license is required and it’s catch and release fly fishing only.

Awesome post. Been way too long since I've been to Colorado. Thanks for posting. Great looking fish and camp photos.

Those photos make it look like there's a trout holding in every square foot of water from bank to bank. Turfdawg, sounds like you want to find a place in Colorado like Macs Hideaway you went to in Pagosa Springs. Step out the door and step into the river and fish. How convenient!

You are exactly correct. I like the cabins close to the water.

Fenwick,
There were indeed a large number of fish. It was almost too easy. The perdigon nymph really killed it, but the fish weren't picky at all as evidenced by my destroyed Mohawk Pheasant Tail. All in all, we caught over 40, with some very pretty wild fish.
Euro style was the best technique, but a quick BWO hatch in the afternoon was worthwhile to switch rods and put on a dry fly.
