Above Re-Reg dam, is a body of water that is referred to as Re-Reg Lake. I canoed the area a few times and I've done some bass fishing on this lake.
I'd like to get your thoughts on the sustainability of a trout fishery in this body of water. I think it would be pretty cool if this could be a sustainable trout fishery that would offer another dimension to the fishing in the area. To get out in the canoe or kayak and away from the crowds, this would be a great option if it was more fully stocked.
I realize there are issues regarding water temperature and also the bass population would take a toll on the trout.
I'm sure there are a few trout in there, however my limited experience on this lake, seemed that it would not be worth the effort.
What say you?

How far is it from the Park Dam to the Re-reg Dam?

Best guess is 3 1/2 miles. I went from the Re-Reg up probably 3 miles toward OPD. In my canoe w electric trolling motor in dead heat of summer. Caught mostly Kentucky bass. Re-reg has me intrigued.
I believe an untapped opportunity.

Re-reg up to OPD is 3.90 miles, maybe closer to 4 but we canoed from Rereg all the way up to OPD and then back down when doing my side scan project. I believe that trout probably cool off in the depths above rereg if it gets too warm in the summer. It is 27' deep in most places above there, however, I am not sure when the last time ODWC stocked trout above rereg. My guess is that if they did, those trout would just disperse and never be seen again or go down through rereg and sit at the bottom of it after power generation

Tyler, do you mean to say you don't think ODWC stock Zone II, or just that they don't stock the lake formed by the Rereg dam which, I imagine, would be considered to begin somewhere below where the trail that follows Zone II runs out? I know that I had no luck while fishing Zone II this winter, but I understand that some who know it's secrets a little have done better.

I don't believe they stock directly above rereg dam. They have definitely been stocking zone 2 to get the fish numbers up. I have no idea how to fish zone 2 either. I think a kick tube would be best in the bigger water below the islands but you'd really need to pay attention to hydropower otherwise you'd be in for the ride of a lifetime.

I'd definitely like to explore more of zone 2 by canoe, as well as the big water above and below the fly shop. There has to be lots of fish here, it's just that it's slow water and is out of the normal water type typical of fly fishing for trout.

While Kayaking with my family from EH bridge to FS bridge on Saturday, I saw about a 15 inch palomino in the river. We were somewhere upstream of Fern, but downstream of Grapevine, in about 4 ft. of water.

It's been said before but is always worth repeating for kingnothing and anyone else wondering what those orangy golden yellow trout are all about in the Lower Mountain Fork. They are rainbows. The outfit that provides the majority of stocked rainbow trout for us will from time to time include the golden rainbow trout in their deliveries as a novelty for we fishermen. Their website explains whats what about the Golden Rainbow Trout and has a few links within the explanation containing more info about them: www.crystallakefisheries.com/all-about-trout/They are at their eerie best when they are the only fish you can see in the water during dim predawn or evening twilight.

Eric the palomino? The one they bill as the World's Smallest Horse put on display at the Texas State Fair? Why is he loose in the park?

It seems he's been spotted swimming in the river. Well, more power to him!
