The conditions are very tough here in Slovenia. Temps are from 95-100 degrees, and the locals say this is the warmest they have seen since 1950. Water temps are ranging from 73-80 degrees in the comp water. The flows are probably between 60-80 cfs. Forecasting cooler weather next week for the comp.

Frank, Sounds just like fishing in Oklahoma . Evan should feel right at home. Thanks for the update--I'll be watching the score board!

Frank, Sounds just like fishing in Oklahoma . Evan should feel right at home. Thanks for the update--I'll be watching the score board! The only difference is that they charge about $40-$70 a day to fish here, and it cost me $55 a year in Oklahoma. Could you imagine what could be done with the LMF with $60 per day per fisherman.

Is that the price for locals as well, or just for foreign visitors? I can see charging the latter a lot, but if I MOVED there from here and the rates were still that high, I'd be ticked. Tell Evan best of luck, and represent our gang well! Y'all stay safe! Oh, yeah. Is that a giant grayling he caught, a carp, or what?

$40-70 a day wow. Probably not much because very few would be fishing the LMF compared to now.
Good luck and safe travels. With such warm water temps is any type of fish scored like that carp?

That fish that he is holding is a Nase. They count along with Barbel, Chub, Grayling, and Trout.
The rivers are controlled by fishing clubs and they do charge the locals as well. There are three clubs that control the Savinja River that we are on. The trout and grayling area is 60 Euros a day. The lower sections with less trout are 30 and 40 Euros a day.

Sure, but most people would never go for it.
Is that just these private (club?) sections of the river or is that pretty much everywhere? I paid 80$ to fish (private) DePuy Spring Creek in MT and it was totally worth it. Obviously laws are different state to state, but it would suck if a lot of water required you to pay everyday or have a membership.

The Fishing Clubs control all of the water I have seen here The river has no trash along it, they keep it stocked well, and this week they have even prohibited fishing during the heat of the day in the trout and grayling areas.

I'm sure the local club members do get discounted rates though. The president of one club has been a great help to us.

Charging to fish would definitely keep a lot of the riffraff off the river but then it would more than likely include people like me as well. I guess I could have made better life choices, maybe.

Team USA appears to be in 4th right now and Session 1 completed... I'm trying to decipher the results, but it looks like Evan is in the middle of the pack in the individual results.
The list doesn't make 100% sense to me as it has "Place" on the left and points in another column that isn't arranged from highest to lowest. Maybe I need to read the scoring rules again...
[EDIT]: I get the scoring now...

Provisional results are in.
USA made a huge comeback in the 5th session and jumped from 5th place up to take a Bronze Medal.
USA was 6th after the 3rd session.
France - Gold Poland - Silver USA -Bronze
Evan finished 23rd in the world in the individual results.
He had the toughest beats drawn on 4 of his 5 sessions and still toughed it out.
An example was in section 3 beat 12 which he fished, he was the only competitor who caught any fish out of that beat through 5 sessions, as the other 4 who drew that beat all caught 0 there.
Its midnight here and the results are provisional. They should be made final soon with the awards going out tomorrow night.

Frank,
Incredible! I've been following the team and individual results everyday. I saw USA was in 5th earlier today and was bummed. I KNEW that Evan had to be drawing some bad beats in the comp--just unfortunate.
This is great news for our local boy. Give Evan our congratulations. He has a lot to be happy about and dad has much to be proud of.

Evan,
You're probably prepping for school, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the competition once you're back in the US and when/if you have time.
