Woodruff's hatch chart lists some caddis as being year-round. Be on the lookout! I've not caught any major caddis hatches on the LMF.

I managed to get in the middle of a caddis hatch several years ago down in Zone II in some riffles. I believe it was in April. It was glorious. The bugs were the typical caddis, don't know what species, but look like brown moths in the air. The fish took my size 14 ELH avidly for about an hour. Like I said, it was glorious. All of my success with caddis imitations, mostly emergers, at LMF have occurred in the early part of spring. Late last winter, one day there were small black caddis all over in the air and on the bushes in the shoreline, but I couldn't get the fish to respond to anything I was offering, caddis-wise.

When the black caddis are out, Griffith's gnats and small black Rs2's work. I have never seen a caddis bigger than a 14-16 at LMF.
