This week near Jackson Hole, beaver vs dog. A territorial beaver that took residence in Crater Lake was killed earlier this week, but not before maiming a large dog swimming there. The canine-castor run-in took place Monday, when Matt Deehan’s wife was with their 80-pound rescue mutt, Teddy, at a frequent lunchtime dog-walking spot for the West Bank residents. Teddy took a swim and emerged from the water limping and bleeding, the result of the large, toothy aquatic rodent attacking his “pecker,” Deehan said, scrotum and inner thigh. Wow, maybe I should steer clear the next time I see a beaver swim by while I'm wading. I always treated them as harmless.

I’d punch the snot out of it but I’d sure be pissed if it bit a hole in my waders (and my skin!). I wonder if Simms would warranty that??

A Labrador swimming in a designated beaver hole will look like another beaver maybe trying to take over from the resident beaver.
I’ve had to slap at them with my rod when they get too close. Otters as well.

I had on otter take a swipe at a hooked fish near Teton Village, never a beaver though. Beavers are VERY territorial. Cool story.

Two otters followed me for about an hour where Warm River hits Henry's Fork at that old steel bridge. May have to start carrying bear spray to fish now. Jeff, have you ever fished the Warm River camp ground ? I didn't fish it this year because Teton River was so good.
Did you find a cabin on your recent trip ?
