Dain, his dad Craig, Todd13, Jonbo, and I hit the Little Mo below Greeson on Saturday. Not joking, between us we caught 200 fish. A few Browns but mostly rainbows - some recently stocked, some holdovers. One access site was particularly loaded with fish. We had a blast.
This little tailwater isn't for everyone. We decided to give it a try based on Jon's recommendation. I am sure glad we did. The access points are clearly marked off AR-17, I think there were 6 of them. We hit the park site first and caught a few. Dain and his dad had done OK the day before in other spots, so we decided to move. Most of us like moving water.....
The next access was amazing. riffles, runs, pools, and glides for about 300-400 yards. We spread out along the oxbow and caught fish immediately and consistently for the next 5 hours. Nothing huge, but several in the 13-16" range. Several brood fish, colored up holdovers, and even some with fins intact. Todd systematically worked his Olive WB over the whole place and got some of the better fish. Dain moved around a bit and caught fish at every stop. Jonbo claimed he had date night with his wife and bailed just as the action picked up. I of the leaky waders mostly stood in one spot and caught fish after fish. I even caught fish left handed, one handed, and holding the rod with my teeth. All you needed was a black size 18-20 RS2.
This is more of a locals type of river, but it agreed with us foreigners for a day. Woolies, stones, rs2's, and barr's emergers ruled the day. I may try to get back there while their fishing season is on. They are having a great winter with their flow program and it shows in the fishing. There are a few access sites we didn't get to hit and I want to try them. There seemed to be fish everywhere you wet a line.
