Going to the Grand Canyon next weekend with Dan (my buddy at Trout Camp) and another guy. We're taking our 16yo boys that have been friends since kindergarten. We should reach our campsite at the bottom just after noon. Can't wait to see the look on the boy's faces when they realize that they packed our beer down! We have steak dinner reservations for 5pm at the Phantom Ranch. Other than that, I plan on taking my backpack fly rod and do a little fishing. Have any of you fished this area? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Lee's Ferry. Never fished it. Walked in to Shoshone Point once though and got caught in a blizzard in April. Luckily we weren't too far from the car.

We'll be staying at Bright Angel Campground along Bright Angel Creek where it meets the Colorado. I've read that this is the main spawning site for non-native browns. The park service wants them removed to protect the endangered humpback chub. This sounds like it would be right in Jeff's wheelhouse.

What would be in Jeff's wheelhouse? Humpback? Not sure about the humpback. Just figured it would be in his wheelhouse geographically.

I have never been to the Grand Canyon to fish for trout. Too many other places out west that have more/better trout habitat. I did catch some humpback chubs while in Spring Training in Tempe, but that was way back before the fly rod came into my life. Lots of small carp and suckers too.
Sounds like a great adventure with the boys. I don't know how far Mogollon Rim is from your destination, but I hear it is fishing exceptionally well this year with low snowpack and little runoff. I think Gui's story was about that area. Either way, give us a write up when you get back!
