So far I’ve hit a few beaches throwing a few shrimp patterns and clousers. So far nothing on the fly rod but I managed to catch this monster by hand.

I lived in Hawaii for two years back when I was 16-18 years of age.
Ironically, you can go to Kokee, Kauai, and a few other places (Pu'u Lua Reservoir feeder streams), to fly fish for beautiful stream-born rainbow and redband trout. If I remember correctly it may be the southernmost place in the northern hemisphere to catch rainbow trout.
Also, they have really nice smallie and peacock bass further down some of these streams. All would require trekking through the rainforest, though.

I was really excited about catching trout but unfortunately I’m about 2 weeks early for trout season. I managed to get to a waterfall yesterday where there were tons of prons and smaller smallies. I did spot a fat little 2-3lb smallie sneaking around in deeper water.

so this morning I got out in the outgoing tide and managed to get into some bluefin trevalle on my clouser.
