About this time next week I'll be headed up to Northern Minnesota with a buddy of mine for a week. We'll be helping a friend there re-paint their barn and do some other improvements in order to help them out.
Anyways, we'd like to do some fly fishing while there, or even along the way, if there are some decent trout streams worth the time. We'll be staying in the Bemidji, MN area, and traveling there from East Texas. Does anyone know of, or have experience fishing these northern waters?
From my initial online research it seems there are some places along the Clearwater River that may be worth the time. Is anyone aware of anywhere else that may be good to explore while there?
Thanks!

There's a mountainous area, I believe in the corner of SE Minnesota, NE Iowa, and W Wisconsin, something like that. It's called the "Driftless" region. I think it's the main trout area in the upper mid-west, with lots of browns. Go to the The North American Fly Fishing Forum and ask about it. Guys there will tell you all you want to know.

Driftless region is 3-4 hours from Bemidji. Not many trout up north - lots of walleye, pike, and pickerel. I conventional fished some areas around Duluth back in the day. Some salmon and brown trout fishing in Lake Michigan and Superior, but it gets better in the fall, not summer. Have fun with Maps!
