Don't leave your rod unsecured on top of your car.
Did that the day before after work. Everyone was outside goofing off and I was practice casting (got some nasty tailing loops that I'm trying to iron out). I tried to put the rod somewhere safe from the little one and left it on top of my little jeep with the intention of coming back that evening. I never did. The next morning I went to work and my rod was never seen again. It was the rod & reel I started fly fishing with, a 6'6" Eagle Claw with my 7$ South Bend flea market reel. Of course I most definately learned my lesson.

That sucks, Smallfry. I’ve had gear stolen from me. I currently am missing a reel, but I think I may have just hid it from myself. I’m sorry you lost your outfit.

I had a costly lesson Father’s Day weekend myself. I put my suction cup rod holders on top of the Jeep Friday morning and did not check them Saturday afternoon before heading back to the hotel. Well the back one came off and got ran over by one of the souvenir places. Luckily my rod wasn’t on. I’m buying the Sumo brand this time.
Sorry for your loss

Sounds like something I did the last time I was at LMFR. I wasn’t paying attention and forgot to disassemble my rod as I carried it inside the cabin. The screen door ate 2” of tip. Brand new rod!
