We were only able to fish the 10th thru 12th however both my 8yo and myself were able to each land two apiece of the baby rainbows people have been mentioning. Mine on the 10th and his two on the 12, and both were in the fist big hole below the Spill Way. On the 10th I also hooked two or three more of the tiny ones and hooked/fought/lost a good bow in the 18" range. Hadn't picked up a fly rod in nearly 5 years since I broke my 5/6 weight and the addiction has returned. Never was much good tossing anything but I can't get back at it. My fish were all on a #18 sparkle caddis his were on a #20 PMD under a bobber with spinning gear. He's likely to get a fly rod of his own soon as he kept asking to borrow mine. I actually broke the tip inch off it in the cabin door the night I caught fish and had to make a hasty repair job that didn't seem to hurt my meager attempts of casting.
I did try some pre-dawn mouse at the Evening Hole to no avail. Only a couple of bites in that area at all on the morning of the 10th. Honestly didn't see anyone pull anything out of there and I was the first person there.
My wife, both children, and I had a great time at the LMFR and we are already planning a return trip likely next summer (unless I can sneak away for a deer-hunt/trout-hunt this fall).
Good luck to all and God Bless!

Along that line of thinking, just curious where to go in that area? 3 Rivers of the Wilderness Area? I know not exactly part of the fishing report but didn't want to start a new thread.

Forgot to say how proud I was of my boy. Before the first fish I struggled to keep him near the waters edge, he kept creeping back up into the tall grass causing hang ups. But after that first baby bow it was heck keeping him out of the water! I think he spent a solid 2 hours in 8 yo shorts deep water and never complained! He wasn't exactly the gentlest with it but it did make it back into the drink.

Good report. Great to see your youngster enjoying himself. I'm coming up to fish over the weekend of the 4th. Expecting crowds, I plan to spend some of my time in Z2, with streamers and such. But, I'm gonna try up in Spillway, just getting as deep in the pockets as I possibly can. I'm trying a new system for that. See if that makes a difference. I'll be sure to report back. I'm also curious to fish late afternoons and early evening, say at EH. I've never been able to do that at BB as I always beat it back to Arkansas before it gets late.
Anyone, if I plan to fish the evenings, is there any particular hatch I should expect to see?

Jon, let me know how you do in Z2. I haven't heard any reports coming out from down there. Sooner, sounds like you had a good time. Tight Lines.

I'll let you know, Peter, but I have to warn you, I'm not that good of a fly or trout fisherman yet, I feel, to where if I don't get any results when I'm there that it probably means anything. All my experience so far, as far as I know, is with stockers. I don't know if the wilder trout are any different to fish for or anything. I've gone down there about 4 times in the 2 seasons I've visited Beaver's Bend. Once I got in the middle of a caddis hatch and caught about 10 in 10 minutes (so I know there are some fish there). The other times, nothing, nada. But Zone 2 interests me for some reason and periodically I have to wander down there. But I'll be sure to let you know.
