Fern and Elm it is. I’m totally fine with that. Now see, Jonbo, the showers I can do without. The crappers, see, I respect a clean crapper. As awful as the Hickory crappers are, I would prefer the lean against a tree. The Hickory crappers are bad. Covered in crap, spider webs, and wasp nests. Crappy crapper.

Can confirm, camped there this weekend. Pretty helpless feeling looking up and seeing a black widow above you while your pants are around your ankles

I will grudgingly agree to inspect said campgrounds this weekend. I am even going to brave the Folk Festival crowd.

Yesterday they had all the edges of the roads roped off 'no parking' so the festival would explain that, ha! golferjeff I give you kudos for braving weekend crowds in general let alone 17,000 attended festival. I'm out for Sunday, I don't do crowds of people very well when it comes to fly fishing 😆

It should be well-stocked about now.

The only good news is that only about 20 of those 17,000 fish the river. The park will be crowded for sure, the river is usually about the same or a little less crowded than usual. Temps in the 40's will keep some off the water.

Are there prizes for said 'Trout Derby'? The trout derby is more bait fishing and keeping/weight. I wait for the mystery fly.

The Blue does put in several 5+ pounders for the derby. Too bad you have to keep them. I went once - never again. Chinese fire drill at the zoo with a stock truck nearby.

It is crazy town, but only on the lower section. If you drive to the hill top parking lot and walk back, you have it pretty much to yourself. Plus, on Sunday, when they are shutting down around noon, you can hit that lower section near Hughes Crossing upstream and downstream and get into some nice trout. I'll be there on Sunday, muddy water from the rains be damned! I'll leave everything I catch if anyone wants to run out on Monday, or during the week, and take a run at it.

Well folks, I hate to say it, but I will no longer be attending Trout Camp this year. I'm going to be starting a new job a few days before Trout Camp and my training is out of state.

JP is moving on to bigger, better things. You will be missed at Trout Camp and MP. Good news is though, he will be putting together Trout Camp South Platte edition.

JP, it's been great talking fly-fishing, fly-tying and all that with you the past couple of years. I'm glad to have met you at Trout Camp last year. It's not gonna be the same, man! Don't be a stranger. When you figure out the patterns on the South Platte (I'm not sure what stream that is, but I'll bet it's tre-cool) you be sure to come on here and show them to us.
