Are tungsten flies heavy enough to get down deep in those fast runs just above cold hole bridge??

Yes. When fishing that area often times I will have two tungsten flies, and a single BB shot.

Thin flies like a Thread Frenchie or Perdigones on 6X will sink quickly also.

Man, Jealous. I had originally planned on being in CO this week, but it looked like flows were going to be too high, so cancelled a couple weeks back and I'm going to Silverton the end of Aug....driving up to BB next weekend to enjoy the humidity and large crowds...😳

Flows in NM are perfect. That's where I am headed. VAlle VIdal and Costilla. CO is still getting snow, mid-runoff, roads closed or washed out.

First trip there and we hope to hit those two spots, plus the Cimarron. Any information is appreciated if you have experience up there!

I was hoping for a little trip to that area in July also. Was thinking about the B&B at the MW Barr Ranch in Amelia and fishing on site and the areas you mentioned. Please post pictures

We are staying at a friend's cabin just outside of Eagle Nest in a pocket called Idlewild. Looks like we will all be there at the same time. I'd love to get together and fish. We are experienced fly fishermen, but have zero experience in that area. I have had Costilla on my radar. We are seeing Dead and Company in Dallas tonight and driving out after the show. We hope to hit something with the fly rods tomorrow afternoon. After that, it is wide open. I will PM you my information.

Fished Cimarron last week. Camped in Blackjack Campground. Caught lots of stocked rainbows and wild browns in the 5 to 12 inch range on pheasant tails and golden stoneflies. Looking forward to retirement one day.

Cool... BlackJack is where we camped frequently. Good campground and good small stream fishing. Lot of pull over sites along the river. Glad you enjoyed it.
