Date: December 14-15.
The two-week poll closed, yesterday. After 18 votes, the clear winner for a date was the second weekend in December. So, let's make that our official decision. Now, we move into looking at where, and how, we want to set up camp. Also, if anyone has any interest in leading some fly tying sessions like last year, that will be awesome. Another item will be food as a group - do we want to potluck a meal?
Game on! The floor is open for suggestions!

Count me in for being a demonstrator at the Fly Tying Workshop. I volunteered over on the "poll" thread before I saw this new thread. Fly Tying WorkshopAs I mentioned over there, we should try to get a headcount for the workshop (as well as for the camp). I realize that not every fly fisher is a fly tyer, although I can't imagine why ...

Last year camp was split between the edges of Elm and Fern to accommodate both tent campers and RV’ers. I’ve heard that the RV spots must be reserved online now. Not sure what’s available.
As for the Fly Tying... you guys are always welcome at my place if you want to do it there again. As Darrell said, you probably don’t need to bring materials unless there’s something specific you want to tie.

I just want to observe the fly tying class. I would be in for the camping regardless of where we set up. Magick volunteers to be the mascot - maybe along with Ranger and Casey. Let's hope for some good weather this year!

Assuming I don't get sick again this year I'll make it up.
Is fly tying at night?

Yes, I think so ... in the evening anyway. Last year we did it Friday evening although I missed part of it due to travel time. It was a good time to just visit, tell stories, etc. as well. We could also do it Saturday evening.

I’ll be there! Hopefully I can make it on Thursday night or early Friday morning this time. Location doesn’t matter, I’ll be tent camping or might be sleeping in my car to save on setup/tear down time. I don’t tie, so depending on how the drinks are hatching by the fire pit at camp, I might or might not join the fly tying event.

It all sounds great to me. Can someone light a fire under Hankinsfly or Dain, or some of the others we haven't heard from? Come on, fisher-friends! Smallfry, where art thou?

I’ve never been able to make it to trout camp, but this year may be my first. I have some vacation to burn, and my wife is well and back to work.
I’ve mentioned before, and I’ll offer again, that her cousin is the caretaker of group camp #2, which is pretty centrally located to the fly shop and evening hole.
There’s a possibility that we could get a ‘family discount’ and the group would have access to a kitchen (warm, dry fly-tying), plenty of space to pitch tents, and I believe there are RV hookups, too. There are definitely nice restroom and shower facilities.
Let me know if anyone is interested in this facility. I can certainly check to see what the rates would be.

As far as I'm concerned, yeah sure why not? We all gotta stay somewhere but I'm not the Honcho on this and will be happy wherever.
Glad to hear the wife is doing good JR.

JR I think that it would be a good piece of information to have on the rates for a group. It would definitely be good to have the option of the kitchen space for tying, or keeping coffee going. I coordinate groups and it's always nice to have a group space. I still use my tent a lot of the time at those spots, but I like the option to move inside occasionally and visit with others over drinks/coffee.

Well, you might try to find out the prices, Hunt. I think one of the other times someone checked on the prices and we-all decided they were too high... or something.

I tentatively set up the group camp last year but the group decided against it. BUT my plan was only for camping (primitive or hook ups) but did not include the kitchen or facilities. It is worth looking in to again.

Just got off the phone with my wife’s cousin. Group camp 2 is not available at all on any weekend in December.
FYI - rate is $400.00 per night plus electricity. Cabins are dry (no water or bathrooms), but they do have A/C.
That’s just a tidbit of information she gave me.
I will be tent camping.

Can anyone join you guys?
We haven't been up there since Sid owned the fly shop, think that's been a long time, but we wouldn't mind joining you guys to get reacquainted with the river if you don't mind.
Don't want to disrupt the balance being a huge Longhorn fan.

Don't want to disrupt the balance being a huge Longhorn fan. Everybody is welcome to attend! During the day, everyone kinda goes and fishes on his/her own schedule and at his/her favorite spots. The best part is when we all meet later at camp and share food, food, drinks, stories. Some tie flies and the masters share tips at the tying bench. See familiar faces, meet new people, I believe it’s all part of “trout camp”. As far as sport affinities, I think that football is played with your foot for two 45-minutes halves. I also probably can’t say “longhorn” properly... I don’t think anyone cared

Sounds great, looking forward to it.
How do I arrange camping? Is it still first come, first served?
Thanks again.
