Has anyone finalized the agenda for the evenings at camp? - Is there still interest in a fly tying demo? If so, I’ll pack my vise and show what I’ve learned about tying soft hackles and probably Catskill-style dry flies. They have been really effective for me lately.
- Is anyone bringing a grill for a steak cookout?
Is it possible to combine those two events at someone’s (ahem ... rental) cabin?

Would Saturday night be better for something like that, or is Friday better?

Definitely interested in the fly tying. I’d be glad to host at my cabin if that’s what y’all want to do. I’ve got a grill and will have extra steaks in the fridge. I’m open for either evening. I’ll be headed up Wednesday morning, The fishing was pretty good this past weekend, should be a great Trout Camp!

Would Saturday night be better for something like that, or is Friday better? My guess is Saturday night. I know I will be driving up Friday after work and won't get to BB until after 7:30.

I would love to learn those soft hackles! So, what do we need to bring for: 1. Fly tying (materials) 2. Dinner (more meat, sides, etc...)
Also, thanks in advance, Dave, for hosting and Darrell for leading the fly tying!

We just kinda do pot puck for TC meal. Some bring whiskey, some bring breads, wine and cheese (GUI), some bring steaks for the grill, my guests are cooking some finger food type stuff. Maybe some dessert type stuff? Bread for the group? Just whatever you think can be used. I will also have some cigars, fireball, and mixers. I know David likes his Crown Royal vanilla

I am headed that way Friday morning. Hopefully David has my shirts ironed by then lol. I'll be staying at Jeff's cabin but will definitely be going to David's Saturday evening for some knowledge and good times.

Friday evening should we just plan to hang at Elm Campground Trout Camp? Cook and eat around the fire? What do you all think?

Bill and I are going to do something, not sure what yet. Hopefully Todd will get his priorities straight and be there too. We’ll swing by if anyone wants to join. Planning to fish Thursday, hope to see other TC’ers, anybody? I’ll make another TC sign and slap it up if I get there first. Hopefully someone smart enough to setup a group text will be attending. Maybe Camp Counselor Brad!

I’ll be there at some point on Thursday. A friend is coming along with me, and we’re both pitching tents. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and putting faces with names and AKA’s.
I’ve tied flies for the last week, and surely I have something that will catch a trout!
See y’all there!

I will get there Thursday night as well, but possibly late. Planning on cooking by the fire at least on Friday night. I’ll bring some wine & cheese and some extras. A college friend of mine from France is visiting in Little Rock for work. She might take the drive and join for one night and a day.
Really looking forward to this!!

I'll be northbound from DFW around 1:00 on Friday - Also staying at Jeffs cabin. I'm going to try and do a little scouting and catch the evening bite, then come find you guys in Elm. Jeff, I'll bring some snack stuff too and a variety of smoked/dried sausages. Plus some nicer bourbons to sip on

Group Text is a great idea! That way we can communicate from the river over the weekend. If you want to message me your name and phone number, I can put together the group text. We could even make a list from it, if you guys want to put in your hometown/state. We can then see who is near one another and perhaps find a new fishing buddy and carpool partner for future trips. Just advise what you all think.
Update: put your Forum Name in the message and I'll add that to the group list; it should make it easier to connect real names to forum handles. Thx!

Also, thanks in advance, Dave, for hosting and Darrell for leading the fly tying! If you want to tie flies along with me then bring your vise, tools, and some fairly lightweight threads (red, gray, olive, dark brown, and black for sure). A heavier white thread is used as well for the ribbing on Fly 2 below but I can cut off a piece if needed. I will provide the other materials - which can easily be divided up and shared, i.e., hooks, floss, tinsel, dubbing, tailing, hackle, etc. I'm thinking I will be demonstrating these flies: - #14 Charlie Craven’s Soft Hackle
- #16 Taepodong Midge Soft Hackle (with complements to mirvc17 )
- #12 March Brown Dry Fly
- #16 Adams Dry Fly
- #20 Herter’s Bastard Midge Dry Fly
