Went up this weekend. Holy smokes I've never seen it so crowded. The only campsite we were able to get was up at the lake. It's a pretty area, but Oklahoma parks clearly gives no about practicality -- there was zero effort to make a flat area for tents. I spent most of the night trying not to roll into the lake... not to mention how close the next door sites were. Blegh.
Anyways, fishing was OK. I was able to find some open water mid-spillway. I landed a couple of stockers and one baby rainbow, but no sign of the browns. A few chubs and a bluegill from the lake filled out my catch for the weekend.
But, I just took a job in Boston so I'm moving in a couple weeks. So this will be my last trip up to OKĀ
I've got a trip planned down to the beach here before I head up, but assuming I don't freeze to death this winter I'll have some salty striper reports for you in the spring.
Also, holy smokes the grass growing in some sections of the spillway. Is that always there? It's like walking on a meadow, which is nice except that sometimes it's actually five feet deep when you think its about six inches and you get really wet.
