I need to sell some stuff. LOL At some point, it’s just clutter. Antique creels, bamboo fly rods, stuff I haven’t even looked at in years... MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I think he still has the stuff to build them for sale. That might be right up your alley as good as you are at tying Yessir. I started out refurbishing rods purchased off eBay. A guy that set up in Canton would buy them as fast as I could turn them. All that time, I researched and studied the history and lore of fly fishing and split cane rods. Then, I bought a (first edition) Everett Garrison Fly Rod Building book. I built a set of planing forms. The Golden Witch is a supplier of many things pertaining to building split cane rods. Agate guides, glues, string binder machine, snake guides, you-name-it. I have it. I started building rods at the pace of about one-a-month. Some were sold on eBay, many of them were pre-ordered. I only have three in my closet now that I built myself by hand. A fourth one, I built from a blank I bought from a guy in England. It’s a Partridge of Redditch blank, impregnated, and it’s a very nice rod. I recently came across one of the original Partridge sales pamphlets, and the rod is listed in it. I’m not sure if it was originally sold with two tips, but mine has two. The first rod I ever planed by hand is a little bitty three weight. I still have it. I have a seven weight that I have caught a few bass on and one of the biggest rainbow trout I ever had the pleasure to release. I caught it in Colorado in Spinney Mountain Reservoir. The last rod I made was named The One Eleven. I finished it in January of Twenty-eleven. It’s a beautiful (if I say so myself) seven-foot five weight with darkly flamed cane. It has a tan agate stripper guide. I have caught many, many trout on this rod. I haven’t used it in a while, but it is due a trip. As Turf Dawg mentioned, I have offered my split cane rod building tools and supplies for sale. There’s way too much to list, but I recently shut down a storage building, and it’s all in my garage now. Maybe I will start back building split cane rods again? JR

I asked for a water bottle holder that clips onto my fishpond wading belt. Hate having to take the vest off to get a drink of water. Some fly tying stuff. I’m low maintenance.
Huntnfish2much- I wish I could take you up on the bamboo making stuff. I know that would be an all-encompassing deal to get into, obsessive as I am, and I’m just not ready to commit. I don’t even fish enough now and that would mean more time off the water...

Since it was asked what the midge jaws are like, here it is. Just a lot more clearance for the hook. You can tie any size with this. I have tied about 10 dozen size 24’s with ease, can go plenty smaller. Have also tied 1/0 and 2/0 bugs, just position the hook further back in the jaws. Highly recommend.

I don’t even fish enough now and that would mean more time off the water... I hear you. Up until about a year ago, for about the last ten years, I have been so transient, much of my ‘stuff’ has been in storage in one place or another. I plan to be where I am now until I take that long dirt-nap. Like I said before, all my rod making materials and supplies are now in my garage. I have plenty of room to set up to make rods. I just have to allocate time to do it. The only thing I need now is glue and Advil. I have developed arthritis and tendonitis, and I have seven acres to tend to now. I have planted an acre in Thornless Blackberries, and I’m planting more and more blueberries all the time. Before I stored everything, I split out pieces to make two identical one-piece rods. I plan on making them into two- and three-weights. Maybe one more hurrah before I put everything on eBay. LOL. JR

We're gonna hafta talk about this. I've read a little bit about making split cane fly rods but haven't done anything about it ... yet. All this talk about Christmas lists... I felt like a kid under the tree on Christmas morning when I was emptying that storage building. My gleaming Lie-Nielsen 212 scraper plane, made in the image of the unobtainable Stanley 212... It’s made to take off the final few thousandths of bamboo before you glue it all back together. I found the string binder made to wrap the cane strips together as the glue sets, and inside a couple of antique creels were dozens of ferrules and dozens of snake guides and tip-tops. I have agate stripping guides and Struble reel seats till it’s ridiculous. The planing forms have a tiny bit of rust on them, but buffing them with steel wool will take care of that. I found all the records of rods I had built. Each rod has its own micrometer setting at set intervals along the planing forms. This gives the rod its taper and its action. I have my Christmas presents. I even bought myself a couple of new fly lines a few weeks back. Guess I could wish for a little time on the water! JR

Well, what did you get?
I got the Peak Midge Jaws, a fly fishing calendar, and a new/revised Flyfisher’s Guide to Colorado.
Also some Flatiron Pepper Co Hatch Valley Green Chile pepper flakes and a book on how to train our German/Australian Shepherd puppy.

Ten weeks ago I had surgery on my left hand... All I want for Christmas is a left hand that works and doesn't hurt... Coming to fish in early February... whether it works or not... or hurts or not...
