I don't trust flat rocks.
Some are slick, others aren't stable and will teeter totter you right off, and sometimes they break.
Before, I was generally cautious around flat rocks but after the past couple of trips I've decided that perhaps flat rocks are evil, at least one rock in particular.
Most encountered are in neutral positions, basically parallel to the ground, whether stacked or flush. This rock was not in a neutral position, it was rebellious, a chaotic position. This large slab of rock had formed a leanto against the bank. I first noticed it after my flies were wedged by the current under the front of it. As I retrieved them, successfully, I spooked a large trout. I fixed my chewed up line and decided to try for the trout. After a few blind casts I found his hiding spot and hooked him. He was big and ugly, his front half was dark and colored up while his tail end was pale and he looked like he might have had some sort of infection on his back, just a big nasty stocker. He started shaking his head and when that didn't work he turned around and made some lunges down stream. I don't know why he stopped but he did and as I was getting his head turned my way while readying my net he made a run, right under that chaotic rock. My line was slack but he was still hooked so I tried to pull him out backwards. He slowly started emerging from his sanctuary then he gave me a look, spit my fly and scooted right back into safety. So that's why flat rocks are evil, at least one for sure.

Flat rock slabs up and down the spillway have claimed my hip several times... Pizza might be the only flat thing that is not evil.

I like flat rocks, but I don't trust pointy ones in a pile of rounded ones. It cost me 3 fused vertebra and a new ACL on separate occasions.
Your flat rock was laughing at you.....

Gents, I am pleased to hear that I am not the only one that stumbles around on the rocks. I know that sometimes I might be a little buzzed but not always... and these rocks just make me feel like fishing sober is pointless.
