Thinking about a trip - do freezing temperatures have much effect on the trout - need a freezing weather report!
Thanks

Because the LMF is a tailwater, the water temps aren’t affected as much by changing temperature swings. The water temps should still remain in optimal range for winter trout fishing. The bite can shut down at times when there are weather systems moving in and out, but I’ve also found that can be a great time for fish getting active. Moral of the story, go fish it’s always fun. If anything, there’s almost always fresh stockers around that are hungry and aggressive at taking a fly.

I have photos of me and two buddies fishing in February of (I believe) 2009. The snow was falling, and we were hammering the ‘bows in the day use area. Over the years, I have fished at LMF in sub-freezing temperatures many times. It’s a good time to be there.

Just remember to keep the fish in the water if you’re not keeping them. Gills freeze fast.
