Not fishing but I have had some amazing visits to US Fish and Wildlife hatcheries and wildlife refuges--part of a contract I'm on for a couple of years. In Oregon right now. Next big hatchery trip I'll be Idaho in November.
Good topic to get a conversation going Peter!

Rio Grande and Rio Costilla next weekend. Provided runoff doesn’t ruin that, then will detour accordingly.
End of June will be in Missouri 3 days to hit some of the Blue Ribbons.
September is a two week trip through New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Then all the quick trips in between to the LMF of course.

Headed to Montana late June/early July. Looking for some advice/guide to get me headed in the right direction. I will be based out of Livingston. I know most of the larger streams will still have low visibility due to the snow melt, so I'll probably hit up some of the smaller streams.

Headed to the Durango/Pagosa Springs area in a few weeks. I will have family in tow, but can break out a few days to fish. Planning to go to the San Juan in NM and fish around the area I'm staying. I'll be staying little north of Vallecito Lake. I was hoping to explore the Pine as well as Vallecito Creek and the Florida River, just because its close. Anyone have a recommended guide to use on the San Juan in NM? Thanks, Chris

I've had some great trips, but this summer will exceed anything by far! My buddy and I bought a 14' raft and are leaving June 12th for a long circle north and back to hit rivers. We're starting with the San Juan for 4-5 days, then north to Flaming Gorge, up to the Henry's Fork to fish with another friend's son who lives there, up into Montana for the Madison and Yellowstone (possibly up to the Missouri), then down to Wyoming for either the Snake/Shoshone/Gros Ventre, and a wrap up with the Miracle Mile. I drive home to Fort Worth for a few days, then head up to the Catskills in NY for four days, back home for two days and then to the Gulf for five days on the Chandeleur Islands. After that, back to Colorado (Copper Mountain area) for fishing with three buddies around that part of the state. Then July 31 I fly up to Alaska for a week with Bearclaw Lodge in Bristol Bay.
I have the summer off as a teacher and my best friend quit his job and is relocating to CO. He decided to take 6-12 months off and do the things he's put off. Chief among these was for us to do a month solid of fly fishing. We won't have this chance again, most likely. Between COVID taking my uncle and Coach, as well as losing my mother to Alzheimer's two months ago, my perspective shifted radically. We're 51 and decided now or never. We've done smaller trips of 15 days before, but usually just to one state. This will be an adventure. I'm going to try to film as much of it as possible and put together a short film. If you're in any of those areas, you may see us pulling the raft behind my 4Runner, the Blues Traveler. If so, come say hello, fish with us, and have a beer!

Brad, WOW, what an absolute epic adventure ahead! Man, that's awesome! I don't think anyone can beat this as far as fun summer plans... For my part, we'll be going to France in July to visit my parents (they'll finally get to meet their grand daughter for the first time!). I hope to fish a bit there. My parents used to live in a countryside area with a lot of good trout streams nearby, unfortunately, they sold their house couple months ago and moved to a new place with less trout fishing opportunities . I mean, who would do that right!? Still, their new house is very close to a river (the Sarthe) with warm water species. Maybe I can get a pike to eat a fly there. And at about an 1h 15min drive, the upper Sarthe river has more gradient and sustains a wild brown trout population apparently. There's also a fly-only, C&R only section where they supplement with fingerling rainbows. The water from pics I could find on the internet looks promising. Should be fun!

I was there last summer. I fished the Piedra and it was spectacular. I got there about 6:00 in the morning and hiked in about 2 1/2 miles, then fished back upstream to about the mile mark, then hiked the rest of the way back. The first mile gets tons of pressure so it’s not really worth fishing. I probably could have fished all day where Williams Creek pours into the Piedra. I kept pulling fish after fish out of there.

Took a day trip down the San Juan below the Navajo Dam. Great guide and guide dog, just can't think of their name a the moment. Plans for the summer, June is a week long trip up to the Little Red below Heber Springs, Then a 3 day trip in October to Sabine Pass Lake, staying at the Sabine Pass Lodge. Then November up to the Norfork and White around Norfork, Ar. With any time I can get at local holes between those and maybe a few day trips up to the LMFR.

Headed to Estes Park Colorado in about a week, more of a family reunion / vacation with time reserved for fly fishing. This will be my first time in the area, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Our cottage is a stone's throw from the Big Thompson river. And I do like fly fishing in still waters, so I will check out Lake Estes (just wading).

Sounds like a well deserved adventure to say the least. It's been tough on too many with COVID and all. And yeah, losing Coach, what a loss. He was a mentor, guide and friend to so many of us here. Be safe in your travels!

Sh%t Brad, you will see more of the country than a rock band over the next few months! Have fun with the raft. The Juan is really low for now, until the Animas is done with runoff at least. The lower river has been fishing better than the dam and TX hole.
Prosperflyfisher - when did you hit the Piedra? I was there for almost 10 days last summer and it was LOW, LOW, and Lower and not a fish in sight below the confluence. 7-10 CFS and Williams was dried up.
3rd coast - if you are staying above Vallecito, just stay up there! Some of the best water in CO up there - hike up near the divide and fish any body of water you find.

Summer plans - looks like I will be changing jobs shortly. I will have a week in the Conejos drainage June 19-27. GF family trip to roaring/beaver/taney in August. Probably a late summer trip to western CO in September, water dependent.

Downstream of the Valle Vidal is open and fished really well! Cimarron handles runoff good and it also fished great. Grande didn’t come down at all so I went to the Pecos and tributaries, which also provided a good day!

Just returned from the White River in Arkansas last week. Great fun and the wife and I caught a lot of trout, bows and a few browns, but not the "monster brown" I was hoping for. Oh well, that will be for another time. Heading to Nigeria in a bout a month, but no fishing there....ministry work!
Praying that everyone enjoys their travels and fishing and stay safe. A lot of evil around in this world.
Remain Blessed!

Several of y'all have me pretty jealous with your elaborate summer fly-fishing plans, especially Brad. You deserve it though, Buddy! As a pest control man, summer's my busy time. So, nothing elaborate at all, for me. Fortunately, the EH is only an hour and 25 away, heh, heh!

Alaska trip in June and then 8 days off the Pacific Baja coast chasing yellowfin and bluefin tuna, dorado, yellowtail, wahoo and a few others. Gotta fill the freezer.. maybe I’ll get a chance to top my record catch - 220 pound bluefin a couple of years ago.

It was still flowing okay, but the water temps were rising quickly. I was told that I needed to be off the river by about noon. Otherwise, it was near impossible to catch and release a live fish. Williams Creek was too low to fish, but still have enough coming through it to make the confluence worthwhile.
