Yesterday evening I was targeting big bluegills in a nearby pond and had a small white pinch-on strike indicator that 6 different fish struck and took down. I will try my small Betts long body popper tonight and see what they do.

It's a humorous thing to see your strike indicator get pulled under, feel the weight and then nothing. Not the first time this has happened to me with these small, white pinch on indicators.

Wear a helmet when you're fishing and it's hailing. Ouch! Yesterday. However, Despite adversity, I managed to stick 36 bass, 11 big bluegills, 6 crappies and 1 angry catfish with my TFO child's 4wt bug launcher and my float and fly spinning rig.

Great advice there Al. I'm going to wear safety glasses as well. Those heavy streamers really hurt when one zings into your head.
A good variety of fish there Al.

So yesterday I'm tossing a small Betts popper on my 5' 1/2 wt TFO fly rod when a HUGE bass blows up on my popper and I felt the weight for about 2 seconds. Thank the good Lord the tiny hook did not stick. That would have been very interesting had the popper stayed in the fish.

A very impressive strategy Al Quick catch and release. You may have saved that bass' life.

Overcast this morning, rain in the forecast and good barometric pressure. Took the trusty TFO 4wt bug launcher with my Betts popper and waylaid 17 bass (no big ones), 6 big bluegills, 2 crappies and 1 warmouth. The fish were close to the shoreline so I stayed way back making longer casts to get them.

Are you fishing ponds Al ?

Yes Slim. Most of them not far from my house and the fishing pressure is moderate to heavy at each one of them. Not many folks fly fish them so that provides an edge for me. Also, when I need some extra distance that float and fly rig with a clear bobber filled with water enables me to reach them.

Looks like four days of rain ahead this week.
Guys our age Al call them 'bobbers', but I think they are known as 'indicators' now aren't they ?
What ever works, do it.

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedCan't reach em with the fly rod due to distance and windy conditions? You can still "fly fish" with the float and fly rig. 28 Bluegills/Warmouths, 18 crappies and 9 bass this morning in 2.5 hours. The olive near deere was the offering of choice.

Al, Actually I think crappy are harder to catch than trout. And it looks like you have some really nice ones.

Crappie can be elusive. I think that's why its fun to first try and locate them. Several of these ponds I frequent are very large. That's why I need a rig to get some distance at times. They move around so I get my walking in as well. 13 more this evening and lost a 1.5 - 2 lb. one right at the bank. I am going to rig my 1/2wt fly rod for the next outing there.
