I'm not a great fly caster to begin with but I may have an opportunity to fish the Port A area. I don't know the plan of attack, my cousin is the part time coastal fishermen & doesn't fly fish. Any ideas? I know learning to double haul should be important but working as much as I do in the oil field it's unlikely to happen. Trip will be end of June.

A double haul is helpful, but not necessary. Try to fish with the wind at you back if you can. A 7 or 8 wt rod with a good WF line should meet your needs. Clousers in Chartreuse and White, All White or Tan are always good. A shrimp pattern (google "redfish crack") is also good for reds on the flats. Gurglers and Poppers will also be good to have for the flats. I use a heavy leader and tie on 12 pound mono for a tippet. Reds and specks are not leader shy for the most part. Fish the flats early for reds and look for tailing fish and cast to potholes. Later in the day, fins cut off a deeper channel and throw a clouser for trout. If they are there, you will wear yourself out catching fish.
I love fishing Port A and June is a great time to be there . Move around until you find fish.

Thanks! I have an 8/9 I plan on taking, maybe my 5/6 as well. I'll certainly take my spinning gear as a back up but I plan on really trying to catch some fish via fly.

I don't think learning to double haul is as time consuming or as hard as you think either. It's kind of one of those pat your head and rub your stomach type things, but once you get past that it's really a pretty simple concept. You could probably pick up the basic technique in an afternoon of practice. There are a lot of good videos out on youtube. This one is kind of silly but I think he does a good job simplifying it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcE-9WPuZ04And this one is really good, it goes into a lot more of the specifics: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8idd4kgXY4
