Spent the weekend floating this spring fed river. Lots of beautiful wild rainbows and a few browns were caught. Camped at Sunburst Ranch, riverside camping for $5.00, hard to beat. If you get a chance this is a little gem of a trout fishery. Details: looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015/04/next-stop-who-knows-nfow.htmlAttachments:

Sounds like it was a good trip. That river has been on the radar for a while now. Got to love wild rainbows.

Decided to move it to the top of the list and I'm glad I did. If you get the chance, go w/o hesitation. Most places rent canoes and kayaks...it's very floater friendly. I was warned to go before Memorial day...after that it becomes a boat parade on weekends.

It seems like a beautiful river/area. There are a few rivers in that southern Missouri Ozarks area that are on the list. The eleven point river is another spot that I've been wanting to check out. How would you rate the difficulty of fishing at the NFOW? I'm relatively new to the sport and one of the things I always have to keep in mind when visiting a new river is, will I need a guide.

A guide will speed up the learning curve. But I don't think it's necessary. It reminded me of the LMF at the current flow...both around 1000cfs. So if you're confident fishing the LMF I think you'll have success. I would recommend a boat, either canoe or kayak to get away from the walk-in accesses (*I only saw 2 people this trip) and find some space. It was my 1st trip and I had better success on day 2. The blue ribbon area is ~ 7 miles (I think) so you don't have to rush. And you can float back to your camp. Dead drifting Pats or other stonefly imitations, copper johns, and heavy nymphs worked. High sticking was also very effective. Here's the gage info: waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07057500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
