Made a day trip up to do some fishing yesterday. I snagged this beautiful yellow trout, then caught another. Someone else also caught two of these as well. I have seen them refered to a banana trout, guessing they are a hybrid of the rainbow? Did they just start stocking these, I have never seen them before in the LMF.

No, they did not just start stocking them at the LMF. You're right--they did originate from Rainbow trout and have been around since the mid 1950s (at least back East). I believe there are several different types. I have heard them called several names, but "Banana Trout" is a new one to me. Look here for a basic explanation/history: www.yorkccd.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Golden-Rainbow-Trout.pdfThanks- Ken

Adding to what Ken mentions here is the website of the hatchery providing them for the LMF: www.crystallakefisheries.comSorta eerie seeing them in the water during the early predawn light or at dusk. This link features a rather striking photo of golden rainbows having made their seasonal spawning run up the newly built fish ladder found at the upper dam and straight into the headwaters from whence LMF golden rainbows originate: www.crystallakefisheries.com/wp-content/uploads/photo-gallery/old/IMG_2769.jpgMany of the regular Emerson strain rainbows are too lazy to deal with the fish ladder and instead choose to spawn in the feeder creeks along the way throughout the park thus we have a nice mix of strictly stocked and locally spawning trout in the river to enjoy. Brown trout will be stocked in the near future as well. And there's the Vibert boxes too.

Emerson (Lake and Palmer) Rainbows! Used as a counting tool for several hatcheries. There have been a few bigger ones caught over the years - Brad had a video of a really nice one from the old Bluffs area I think. Usually one per hundred standard rainbows.
Cool stuff.

I just can't believe this is the first time I have seen or caught one. Beautiful fish with the bright yellow.

They're probably pretty for the ospreys to spot. I caught one in the White below Beaver dam some years ago. Tasted just like a regular rainbow. That said, I don't like to eat trout nearly as much as crappie, and walleye is even better.
