I guess I'm gonna hit Lake Watonga as its the closest to home tomorrow. Gonna cold, snowy and windy. Watonga had some really nice, healthy, strong rainbows late last season, I don't know it they were stocked that way or if they got healthier as time passed. Anyway, I'll check the weather predictions closely tonight then report when I get back.

Well I've fished with icy rod guides before but that was rough! HAha, no fish today. Lake Watonga, lots of shad on top.

I bought a car today...I might try to get over to Medicine park tomorrow but got to discuss with the wife first. The cold temps should keep the non-hardcore types away. It should be in the high teens/low 20s with sun.

Mirv it's pretty cool fishing there in MP. I like solitude but it's a cool experience fishing right in a town like that. I grew up in Lawton and learned to fly fish in the Wichitas for the sunfishes, about 20 years ago. Did you know Lawton,America has a fly shop? Cache Creek Fly Shop. Jon Ax, he taught me the basics of tying and casting. He's also a helluva gun smith.

Ha, cool isn't the quite the word I'd use, but it's a unique experience yes. It's all I have out west here. It's not ideal, but I make it work as best I can. Have you fished there this season? I missed last season due to a deployment, but the fish have been better than the previous couple of years I experienced. I tried to go to the Cache Creek fly shop a couple of times but it was closed on both attempts. Is it any good???

It used to be really good, and being a kid and introduced to all the cool gadgets, it was awesome. I think now he has pretty much focused on guns, conceal carry classes, gun repair and mods, etc. Just not a market for fly fishing in Lawton. I wouldn't expect to find much technical stuff there nowadays, just the basics. I haven't been in there in 5 or 6 years. He used to carry Cortland products and old Griffin rotary vises. It's cool in that you can stop and get a decent burger and be back in the water without driving anywhere! I tried Medicine Creek a couple times last year, never did very good. Just a couple of 10" stockers. A lot of it looks really fishy but they either weren't there or I didn't fish it right. I'm excited about the prospect of good fish to catch there now.

Yea, just look at the fish I caught recently...pretty decent for stockers. Hard fighters, jumpers, and nice runs from them peeling off line.
Even though I got skunked on my last outing, I still look forward to going back--hopefully tomorrow!
