Hello all, I'm wanting to come down for a few days of fishing (mid week) in a week or 2 and I have a couple of questions. Do any of the tent camping areas have electric (110 would suffice)? It's not a must have but would be nice. A nearby shower house would be a plus also. One more quick question -- Do you pay at the campgrounds or at the park office? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Verify with the park but I believe the tent only areas do not offer electric. However you can pitch a tent in the RV campgrounds, at RV rates. This includes water and electricity. Most sites have paved pads and soil areas large enough for tents. All campgrounds have restroom facilities although some are closed for the winter. Call the park at 580.494.6538.

Are any of the RV/electric spots near Evening Hole or are they all further downstream?

There are some downstream of Evening Hole, on the same loop road as Hickory campground by Evening Hole. Right across from the horseback stable if you are familiar.

I've been to both and MUCH prefer Beaver's Bend over the Blue.

The Blue is free to camp at [with everyone having a year license or conservation passport] but is primitive only. They do have one nice out house but no showers since there is not any water or electricity. I was just at the Blue yesterday and while it is much closer for me I much prefer fishing at the Lower Mountain Fork. I just do not care much for the deeper pool still water type fishing that the Blue has a lot of. The Blue is a very pretty area with tons of small water falls. One thing I really like about the LMF is areas to park close to your fishing hole. At the Blue you have a lot of hiking, especially if you want the 40 minute walk to the catch and release area. Everyone has their own preferences though.

BB park does seriously need to rebuild some of the "bathrooms." Hickory campground is nasty.

Danimal- leaning back on a tree would be a whole lot cleaner and safer than pooping in the Hickory campground facility

Thank goodness for the privy in "Hotel Jacques"! I just scoured it all out yesterday after our last week-long trip...

Danimal- leaning back on a tree would be a whole lot cleaner and safer than pooping in the Hickory campground facility I hear ya man. I've used it a couple of times this winter, but I don't see it happening in warmer weather when the smell (and black widows) would be even worse.

Someone here recommended the Fern campground for better facilities.

Someone here recommended the Fern campground for better facilities. I am kind of partial to the facilities at the Charles Wesley

I prefer the 'hold onto a tree, lean forward, and let it fly' method of making doody in the woods. I do carry my own toilet paper for just the occasion. I do agree with y'all - the restrooms are Grade X nasty in the summer.

If the purpose of sharing these personal raw sewerage practices is to dissuade others from angling at or below the campgrounds so that you can get the water to yourselves, your ploy has all but convinced me to limit my fishing upstream. Probably others as well. This means that the heavily fished Evening Hole and (upper portion of) the Hickory Hole are about to get more crowded than ever. Consequently, this will greatly constrain the fishing guides in providing their clients with a pleasant angling experience, as not being able to get in the EH/HH will force them into a doomsday scenario where they are relegated to leading their neophyte clients into the downstream "Murky Riffle" that requires one to thoroughly bleach one's waders at the end of every fishing day.

^^^ Yup ^^^ Watch out for those "brown trout" especially after a rain! 8^)
While on the subject of campgrounds... when did they install the ugly mercury-vapor lights in the camping areas? I love being out at night with a campfire and the stars. These lights are really a detraction for me and mine, and I may bring a BB-Gun next trip... (just kidding)... Seriously, every time I've stayed in the park it's been very nice, but this time in the Armadillo Campground where I like to stay they had added these lights... 8^( ... I sent a nasty-gram to the park a few minutes ago. I'm sure they'll go rip 'em out just because I don't like them... right?!?!
