I am new to Beaver's Bend, but will return this Spring. I think I will hike up past Cold Hole up the trail toward the Spillway, maybe halfway. Can anyone tell me if that is a decent stretch. Seems to make sense that it would be. Less people I imagine....
Your thoughts?
Also, I will stop in the Fly Shop, but what kind of flies work in Mar and April. I am brand new to Fly Fishing (like I have been twice).
thanks -

Less people.... no. MOre recreational traffic than fishing traffic, but still plenty of humans. Lots of pocket water for skilled fly anglers. Not the best place for a newbie, but can be done. The entire river is full of fish right now.
Just go to the fly shop and see Eddie and Roberta for flies. march browns, BWO, eggs, and woollies are the go to flies right now. Midges are always a staple. If you are that new (two times), stop and see them and get some intel, they will be happy to set you up.

Yes to the fly shop stop as your first stop. Eddie and Roberta will set you up with the "hot" flies and line you out on good spots. As for me and Spillway Creek, being fairly old and slightly gimpy, SC is a tough walk. It's been left by the flood fairly wide and full of nice, fishable pockets. The trouble is they're awfully hard to reach. I find the footing there to be the most treacherous of any stream I know, anywhere. As for where the fish are in the LMF river in BB Park, they're everywhere, seriously.

Jeff, are egg patterns working? I have some that I've tied but didn't even think to try them during last trip up.

Eggs? If nothing else is working, yes. Chartreuse, salmon, and orange seem to work. for some reason they work even better below PH bridge.

Thanks for the advice. I will try some hiking next time I come up. Pockets huh? I think my waders has a pocket. I should be good.
