I'm fairly new to Fly Fishing. I'm also new to fly fishing Beavers Bend. I want to come up from denison tx this weekend to try my hand at it. My main question is, where is the easiest to get to spot that will allow me to focus on my casting and not stress me out about footing? I have bad knees, not disabled, but it would be nice to not have to worry about taking a tumble. I'm also a little concerned about the regulations. Is there a web site that has all the current regulations for each zone. I have been to BB as a soulless spin caster and my son and I did get yelled at by a Fly fisher because I was ignorant of the barb less hook reg of one of the areas I was fishing. It was embarrassing and I would like to avoid that as much as possible, so any help would be appriciated.
I have a 3wt and a 5wt rod that I have been using around the ponds and lakes, are these appropriate for these streams?
What flies work best this time of year?
Thanks in advance for any help!

This sounds like fun.
Roberta and Eddie at the Beaver Bend Fly Shop will answer all the questions you have, they are a wealth of information. You can call them ahead of time if you need to. Both rods you have will be great.
Please remember to have fun! Everyone has a first day.
Roberta and Eddie that is all you need to know for now.
The Best

I just took up fishing last month and yes, Coach Eddie and Ms Roberta will hook you up on the popular flies for this week. They have anything you need or left at home. They will mark up your map with some options. I struggle mightily with fly fishing, but it is so much fun as I am learning. I miss more than I catch, so have reasonable expectations. Trout are nothing like warm water fish I have learned. It's all about the experience for me. I use a 5wt for what it's worth (you asked about rods).
Enjoy - I am spending Easter there also.
Oh yeah - dinner: Burgers and Blues, just outside the park is tremendous. Breakfast: I eat at Burkes gas station in Broken Bow - the omelettes are crazy good.

I have checked this thread also and wanting to know how Brad did. "Todd" is reading books on crops and weed control presently (re: Indians call you a 'farmer' if you can't fish or hunt). I am good at 'where to eat'.
Brad? Brad? Ms Roberta was talking about a bear chasing a deer last weekend. Maybe the bear found Brad to be a bit easier to catch.

Here is the story. A few of the other guides and I were fishing for smallmouth on a remote creek to the North of Beavers Bend. This creek sees little to no foot traffic and as we were walking down the creek, we spooked up the bear on the edge of the water. As the bear was stumbling/ crashing through the brush like a Volkswagen beetle, he spooked a deer that was kind of back to his right a ways. It was actually more like the deer was chasing him, even though that wasn't the case, they were both spooked. He crossed/rolled across the creek about 40 yards in front of us and the deer crossed the creek in one jump a few seconds behind him. Pretty cool.

I've been lucky enough to encounter quite a few over here in Arkansas over the years and it's always amazing.

So Brad changed his name and then went and watched Peter pick on a poor bear and shoot at a deer?

I am definitely out of my league. I can't catch a trout and Peter is basically catching bears and deer on his way to catch fish! Maybe I will take my flyrod through a field of longhorns and go fish a pond - cattle move slowly.
Cool story indeed.

I poked at a badger with a 5 wood once. It came after me. Had a friend do the same to one in Montana. I've never seen him move that fast before or since.
