Took today off work. Beautiful day for it. Thunderstorms yesterday and last night and all the recent rain has the pond overflowing some. Fishing was slow this morning and I did not hook up; post-thunderstorm cold front sometimes has that effect on bass. The day went on and warmed up. Took a break from fishing to meet my wife for lunch. If you're ever in El Reno, Oklahoma, eat at Tacos Jalisco; you will thank me later! Got done with lunch, went back to the house to get a long-sleeve shirt. The few hours out this morning in shirt sleeves resulted in a wicked sun burn. Found a good smoke in a Macanudo on the way back to the pond. Started fishing again, from the banks and wading a few feet out past the brush. Tossing an 8-weight and rabbit strip streamers. WAM! Hook up. Ended up with about nine or ten good, chunky bass and one fat crappie. Nothing on topwater. Fish are not looking up yet and the water is still cool, but the way the bite turned on this afternoon as the day warmed, they'll be smashing poppers in a few weeks. Had a great afternoon. The pond is murky from the recent rains and all fish were caught within about 6 feet from the bank. Saw some fish following the streamers that never ate. All fish struck the streamer at about one foot deep. All the bass were strong and healthy. I switched from black and purple rabbit streamers to lighter colored, flashier streamers and found greater success. We had mostly sunny skies and the north wind died down nicely this afternoon. Enjoy the pics. Life is good.
