Unless something changes I am planning on hitting the river June 17th and 18th morning. I have a new streamer rod I need to try and only have used that ESN on one trip. Anyone else making plans? Might have to meet up for supper Sat night.

Why didn't anyone tell me that the Owa Chita was that weekend? I might be doomed. I invited my BIL and nephew to go and they have never held a fly rod so I will be busy and hope we don't hook anyone. Would it be bad karma to hope for a pretty heavy rain Sat morning followed by drizzle Sat afternoon and Sunday

Hit it in the morning, early. Less folks, more fish!

Eddie at the Fly Shop told me that they're having a lot of action now right AT the Spillway. It could be a good place to try to learn to cast if it's not too crowded. The far bank of the Cold Hole could be as well. So could the Bluffs. Or what just below the Swim Beach bridge?

I just spent six days on the LMF. I caught a few at the Spillway on a light grey streamer with one split shot. Eddie sells the streamer; it was a size 10. I had most success allowing it to dead drift for an extended time while mending the line out into the current a few times to get it to bury the streamer deeper. The most productive place for me throughout the week was Cold Hole, just at the lower end between a root bed and partially submerged log. They were killing dries there - try a brown adams, or midge, there. They were hitting about 5-10 feet before the roots/log all the way down into the middle water between them. I caught a few there in the middle afternoon with small streamers, too. Evening hole had lots of action on dries with brown trout and then working an indicator with a soft hackle about 18" dropped beneath. I saw a trout just above the bottom of the deep pool at the bluffs - he was hitting the hatch each evening at last light. I never went after this fish, but saw a guy throw what looked like a white Cahill or white Wulff at the fish and it broke him off. It was big. I chased a nice trout down on Zone 2 one afternoon, too. He was tailing in the shallow riffles by the islands. I never got him, but did land one just over 15 inches in one of the deeper runs coming out of the riffles. I had to bail because they began sounding the siren.
The fish are there - you see them each evening. They were very technical and selective last week. I believe it had everything to do with the full moon and the amount of hatches going off in the evening and at night. It was still fun, although the numbers landed were less for me than usual. I left them all there for you, though, so enjoy! From what I saw while I was there, you are in for a full house. It was already beginning to build on Sunday for the festival. We all need to enjoy it while we can before they build the huge casino resort and every day is like Saturday around there. I was told that Disney bought land, too, for a water park. If what I am being told by many is true, the casino is being pitched as the largest one in the state - larger than the monstrosity that we see on I35 heading into Oklahoma from Texas. The area between Broken Bow and Hochatown looks to be changing rapidly...I hope the river can survive. We will all have to work to manage it.

I have also heard about Disney group buying a large chunk of land for a place like Schliterbauhn (spelling?) where they have a water park and lodging

If it gets floaters off the river that will be good--there is not enough red zone IMO. Of course that will bring more people to the area which means more crowds on the river as well. It might be bye bye time for BB to be a quiet gem. Maybe it's well past that already? I don't have enough experience going there compared to most of you guys. Being that I live right by the Choctaw Casino in Durant and know many of the people there, there is a lot of talk about the casino they plan to build in the Beaver's Bend area. I'm not sure if the casino types are really interested in fishing for trout, it is supposed to be a huge resort, somewhere you stay all day and don't have to leave. I could see some sightseers but I don't think it would impact the fishing to much. They want to gamble for money, not for fish.

Didn't catch many but had a great time as always. I really was pleasantly surprised at the lack of people fishing. I guess that will be all for the LMF until Fall for me. Looking forward to Pagosa Springs in August . My son and I
