Still reading it, but at least they've changed a couple of their testing standards... for at least the past 2-3 shootouts, they were still using the SA GPX line and a Ross Evolution LT reels... It's a good shootout, but I still wonder about some of their scoring. Like using a line that's a half-line size heavier is going to change things for some of these rods. George has been using the NRX LP ever since it came out and it's his go-to rod... bias? (Without a doubt... he's used to it) Perhaps I should try it some day, but casting a half-size heavier line on my NRX LP (their favorite, and winner once again) seems a little weird. I've only ever used standard (or close to standard) weight lines. (Rio Gold is 146 gr for first 30') They (Yellowstone Angler) call the LP a "fast action rod" when Loomis calls it Medium Power with a Moderate taper. Tim Rajeff explained rod action pretty well on the Reno Fly Shop podcast recently... Action - where does the rod bend when you're casting or hanging a weight from it. If it bends mostly near the tip, it's fast or extra fast action. If it bends smoothly, it's medium-ish... Power/stiffness - No industry standard when it comes to stiffness or set standard that Rod X can cast 140 grain weight at 30 feet. (the original #5 rod standard) Anyway, I don't 'know' if the LP is a fast action rod for sure, but it isn't according to the manufacturer. Is it a nymphing machine like YA says? I guess so??, that's what I do most of the time. But let's be straight--the LP was meant for long, delicate casts with thin leaders and dry flies. So I am baffled about using a heavier line with it. It seems like every shootout, you read YA saying they're "surprised" that RL Winston rods didn't finish higher in the pack... I've never cast one, but since RL Winston now also produces its own fly lines that can be matched to their rods, it seems like an unjust comparison...(we know Peter uses them). How many other fly rod manufacturers out there are also making their own lines and pairing them with their rods?? Echo I think does...but anyone else? Enough rambling... Looking forward to others thoughts... Jeff and Peter have chimed in in the past with good observations...

Those are some good thoughts and observations. Yes i totally agree that one line does not fit all, and will vary based on the rod. They would need to use lines that are truly 5wt OR recommended by the manufacturer for the specific rod, but I guess that gets too complicated. I also believe that the NRX LP winning for the past few years is not onlky because it is indeed a great rod BUT also because its Georges favorite and every person has their 'ONE' favorite rod.
The Radian came second and it by all means is one of best rod by many people, so at least they are honest in review for that. The Fenwick AETOS has been winning the best rod for value at $189.99. I bought one after their first in2015 and i must agree it is a GREAT casting rod. It felt a bit better than my H2 (which i personally think is a bit overrated)
