Has anyone ever been there to see the monster Lahontan cutthroats?
I'm considering going on a Backwoods trip. It's offered in November and in March. I can't imagine hauling in a 30lb monster while standing on a ladder.

There aren't any 30 pounders any more. A good fish is a 10lb. There is a concerted effort to re-establish Lahontans in the Truckee Basin, but the conditions just don't allow for the real big ones these days. I did fish there once just to try it. 20 degrees, 30 mph wind, standing on a ladder. I made it 3 hours before I quit. Never even saw a fish much less land one. It is very intimidating. I enjoyed the Truckee river - browns, rainbows and the occasional stocked Lahontan.

I've read about the place, but it doesn't interest me that much. Lake fishing is OK, but I still prefer rivers. The fish always seem stronger and I enjoy the drift. I think flowing water is just more soothing to the soul...
