Who has some intel they can share on this fishery? Maybe best access points to wade? I just found a good website, but first hand recommendations are preferred.
I found where Dain had a trip planned last Spring...
I am looking at other fisheries while BB is blown out for a week or two.

I didn’t end up making it to Austin for that trip. Just too much going on before the wedding to be able to go down there. Have wanted to fish down in that area for a while now. More of a bass river, but it might be stocked in one area with trout during the winter? I’m not sure on that. Lots of good bass rivers down there and I’ve been seeing a lot of big trout coming out of Guadalupe on IG this winter. Taking a trip to Austin in may and hoping to be able to get away and do a little fishing.

Haven't really fished it yet, but two places I would consider would be South Llano State Park and the Slabs (Google Llano River The Slabs). Most areas are wadeable. As said, its a bass fishery. Alot of Guadalupe bass which are similar to trout in that they like moving water.

I have fished the South Llano several times, mostly in and around the state park. The park is wade-able and beautiful. You will catch Guadalupe bass, spotted bass, sunfish and Rio Grande cyclids. If you are there for a few days, it is worth the drive to go down to Uvalde and fish the Nueces river as well. The Nueces is gin clear and has pure strain Guads. It is a close to trout fishing as you can get without the trout.

Llano turned out great. Caught a nice LMB and a very nice Guad. Love the colors on this fish. The wading access was great and super easy. The wading and bottom reminded me a lot of Colorado in many ways. I am definitely returning as things warm up. Camped practically on the river.

Thx. Camped in Mason and fished the access points close to there. Mostly between Llano and Mason. The names of them escape me, but if you want the access points, I can send them to you. I have them documented.

Took the RV and watermaster raft out this past weekend on the Llano and stayed at Dos Rios RV park south of Mason. Nice area. Caught a bunch of Guadalupe nuggets (2+ inch) which bodes well for future fish population and the little boogers hit pretty hard for their size. Also caught quite a few perch and a few decent size Guads. These are the only pics that came out because I couldn't see my screen in the bright sun. Everything caught on buggers (olive, white and black) in riffle water.

Sounds like a fun trip. Are those two fish guads? They almost look like the smallies we catch in tahlequah this time of year.

Looks like a great adventure. I have camped at Do Rios - right on the water. Nice place and those are nice fish. Did you have a second person to shuttle you back? I have wondered about floating it, but unsure about some of the challenges with logistics.
Did you target any specific crossings? I had my best luck at Hedwig's Hill and Castell.

Nice fish, but how's the smoke? The "smokes" were very good. That is just one of quite a few. Can't believe I drove off and forgot my bourbon at home, but that's ok....
