I'm taking a trip with the family the first week in July to New Mexico. We will base out of Angel Fire, and I expect to be able to sneak away for maybe a day or a day and a half to do some fly fishing. What are the best areas closest to there? Looks like the tail waters of the Eagle's Nest lake (cimarron river) is closest, so I will probably hit it up, but not sure if there is another area within an hour that would be worth it.
Also, I may consider a guide, but probably not for more than a half day. I want to catch some fish, but my goal is to relax, so for me, the difference in my enjoyment level between 5 and 50 fish is negligible. Okay, maybe 15 and 50 fish. Any areas better/preferable for the self-guided fisherman?
Thanks, Jeff

You will have a blast on the Cimarron River. Also, the San Juan would probably be worth a trip while you are there. Good luck. I am not super familiar with that area, but I have fished both the Cimarron and San Juan. Both fish very differently so do your research before you go! If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me. Tight Lines,
