The below link was posted on another forum and I thought it could be worth posting here, especially since the LMF is a Year-Round trout fishery and fish mortality in the Red Zones should be something of concern for all.
When releasing trout, they may swim away looking healthy, but the fact is, mishandling can cause them to perish within minutes. Mishandling may be intentional or inadvertent, but could include: keeping out of water too long (try to unhook and photo while the fish is still in the net sight at the water surface), allowing the fish to drop on or flop on rocks, or mishandling for photos (see link below). There is a lot that many are simply not aware of and how to hold a trout (if one must hold) for a photo.
I encourage folks to consider alternatives for photos (I try to photo all fish while still in the ghost net), but if the preferred pose is to hold the fish while standing upright, this link may help in increasing survival rates.
