I have a surgery scheduled for October 19th... and I was hoping to come up tomorrow and stay until Monday morning... but dang near every RV site is full. Don't these people know school has started and they need to be staying at home? Not sure what to do... Maybe I can get into one of the private RV Parks...

It’s kind of weird that before this year there were only a few spots you could reserve but now you have to reserve a spot

For many years we would leave work at lunch on a Friday to hit the park before 3pm with our RV to get a spot. Then people got to where they would put chairs and those little indoor kiddie tents on spots to save for their friends who might be coming in later. It became a hassle and the camp hosts had to be the bad guys reminding them it was against the rules. So it only seems logical they had to make the move to this at some point. It is both a blessing and a curse. If only they monitored and managed the river and its users in the park as closely as they do the camping.....

I have run into a particular group a couple of times... VERY nice folks... They get together at the Armadillo campground on Stephens Gap Rd. several times a year. I like that campground because it has full hookups and I like to use my own shower. I sometimes have a few visitors in my camp because I sit out and play guitar and sing. Anyway... They have a scout that reserves all the campsites and gets there to stake them out. He/She pays for all the sites and gets reimbursed. The scout takes little tents and pops them into each site. The rules state that there has to be at least one piece of camping equipment in the space from the first day it's reserved. They all show up in the next couple of days and have a great time. This doesn't violate the rules because the sites are paid for and there's a piece of camping equipment there. I'm not sure if they've changed the rules since then, but I've mixed feelings about it. On the one hand they're really nice people just trying to enjoy life... on the other... they may be keeping others from the same thing. They invited me to dinner, but made me bring my guitar and sing for my supper... literally... Anyway, by the time it's really good and cold, and all the macho cliff divers are gone, maybe my hand will be healed enough to use it for some fishing. See you all about Mid-December...

I was waiting to see if my knee, after steroid injection & P.T., was better, and just now tried to book a primitive tent campsite at BeaversBend end of October into first week of November - all full.
bummer

With iffy knee will likely only fish the E.H. Will visit with Coach to get his recommendation of any hatches and buy some flies from him.

Well... crud... They're gonna take a small bone out of my thumb/wrist joint Monday. And I was all right knowing I was going up to the San Juan in February, but that's off now because #1 son can't go. Maybe I'll get up to LMF in January for a week. Surely this will all be slowed down by then. If not I have a friend that lives in Mountain Home Arkansas... Since my parents are both gone, I'm legally an orphan. Maybe my friends will adopt me... 8^)

I'm still in a cast... pun intended... for about 3 more weeks. But I'm planning a trip as soon as the sawbones says I can start using my hand. What's the crowding like? Has the cooler weather dropped the crowds any?

A buddy of mine was there first part of the week. He said that Monday was pretty quiet. Tuesday was really busy, and Wednesday was plain crowded.
