Those are great posts. I will use them for planning my next fishing trip ... to Montana. I was surprised that you re-routed through Spearfish SD and didn’t fish the Canyon. It would have been worth a quick side trip although I sure you were pressed for time on the alternate route.

I'm glad you enjoyed my report/pictures. We were on a tight schedule and had fished the Black Hills before. Look here for that report:
My friend Scott and I made an end-of-summer trip to SD and WY to fish for trout in the Black Hills.
You can read about it here:

Ken - I needed to take you to CO this summer! I had 72 days in the mountains. I have a fish journal, pictures, and memories, but my story would take about a week to write!

Jeff,
72 days in the mountains; you're "living large"--especially if that didn't involve work and was all fishing! This Sep we're committed to less driving (12 hours or less), so CO and NM are prime candidates. We will keep an eye on snowpack since it determines water levels for late summer fishing and then make our selection.
Perhaps the Arkansas River using Salida as a base to fish both upstream and down to chase its wild Browns. I know you're a fan of that water based on posts you've made in the past. I will do some research on additional smaller streams in the area and a lake where we can try our float tubes.
Tight Lines- Ken

Ptarmigan Lake off of Cottonwood Pass road. Or cottonwood Lake. The Elbert Forebay can be floated as well. I'll send you a PM.
