Every year about this time, the park pulls the stop logs. Does anyone have any intel on when that’s going to happen this year?

It wouldn't suprise me if they didn't pull the stop logs this year. Was up there on the 23rd and they were still in.

Ask a silly question. What are log stops? thanks. The bridge by the fly shop and the bridge below the swim area have several timbers seated in channel iron to act as dams that hold back several feet (depth) of water so folks can swim and kayak / canoe in deeper water. Usually, right after Thanksgiving, the parks department pulls several of these ‘stop logs’ to allow the water levels to drop. I always understood that they did it to kill off aquatic plants so the swimmers and kayakers wouldn’t get tangled in the moss. It also opens up a lot of area that we fly fishers enjoy during the coldest months. In my opinion, the fly fisherpeople aren’t even an afterthought anymore in the grand scheme of things. It is what it is. JR

I must admit that the area above the fly shop, further upstream can produce some good fishing. I put in by the day-use area with my canoe. I typically fish it with an indicator and a balanced leech. It does produce but not everyone's way to fish, still a good option.

I used to have a Wilderness Ride that I would carry to LMF when the fly shop was on the other side of the road. I would launch right there by the fly shop and use my anchor trolley to sit sideways up stream and cast a woolly bugger towards the bridge. Caught a few like that. JR

We got there Sunday and just got home this afternoon. Stop logs were still in place. Have they abandoned taking them out? It would have been nice to have some other places to fish.

No one (among those of us who actually use the river) seems to have a definitive answer to that. It looks like they decided to leave them in this winter. In any case, they don't seem to have shared whatever their plans are.

Okay, so here is the deal. Stop logs below the swim beach have been removed. The stop logs by the fly shop have not been removed, at least as of yesterday.

Something made me think that they might pull them before the LMFRF trout derby in early February. I suppose that tournament is still happening (post COVID)? JR
