I am accompanying my wife to Dallas and she asked me to find a place to stay close by. I told her it was a little North and bit East! I'd like to wet a line and maybe get a trout or two for dinner but time is really limited. I am very used to fishing Ozark streams in Missouri and Arkansas but the the thing that concerns me is following the rules and regs and staying off private property. It appears the Zone 1,2 and 3 regs are old and have been replaced by red and blue areas. is that right? Also there appears to be no size limit other than a Brown must be over 30 inches and a only one Rainbow over 25 my be kept. I use barbless hooks so I am good there. Any recommendations as to what holes to hit that are easy to find and I can get to quickly if I only have an hour or two to spend?

Bait is allowed everywhere, barbless everywhere. 3 hours from the river to Dallas. No private property anywhere on the lower mountain fork river until you hit the bridge way downstream from the trout water. Stick to zone I above the powerhouse bridge/swim beach area. 99.99% chance of steady flows and no worries about high water. All Browns C&R, keep 3 rainbows for the smoker. The best way to try to get a few quick ones is to find a bridge and fish both sides of it. Those are the stocking points for the most part. The place we call 'Hickory' is a good place to catch a few stockers. 'Cold hole' is also a generally easy spot. Stop by the fly shop and spend 5-10 minutes there before you start, you'll likely get some intel on flies and fishing.
Can't go wrong with imitating March Browns and midges right now. Some BWO's too. Size 10-14 on March Browns and 18-22 on midges and BWO. Happy fishing!
