So I haven't had a chance to visit yet, but wit the reports of 10-15 foot holes on the new spillway creek, I'm thinking that the traditional nymphing methods that I've been using on the LMF may not get it done anymore. Since I usually use a 9 foot leader, I may have to adjust my tactics a little bit to get down to the fish. I'm thinking I may have to double the length of my leader at least. I'm also thinking a sink tip line might come in handy here. Does anyone here have any idea/advice on fishing deep water like this? I can't say that I've ever fished anything this deep before.

These holes probably aren't all over the place. And remember there were a few real deep ones before (Bluffs, Middle Spillway). I don't plan on changing anything until I see it for myself, and my guess is that the bulk of the fishing will still be like every other river out there - 7.5'-9' leaders with floating line.
I don't think we'll need to reinvent our game over this.

If there are large holes that deep, might start thinking about sinking lines like those of from Teeny; just get the correct sink rate for the waters. Personally, I like those better than sink tip. Might even add a sinking furled leader. I know many hate the furled leaders, but they are my favorite.
As Brad said--holes like that are likely not everywhere so check it out first, then decide what needs to change.

From all reports (one from a game warden that got in the water on his way down SW creek) we only have a few deep pools. These are anywhere from 7-10 feet and they are not very large. I would not put a huge amount of work into rigging up for a lot of deep water in large pools. That is not the case on SW. On these runs I would suggest adding weight to your line and get the fly down a little deeper. As Brad said...we have always had deep runs and pools in the past. If anything I would take some sink tip and fish it in these holes as an experiment. Time will tell as to what we need to do on this new stretch of water. What we need is for all you young guys to get the lay of the land and pass it on to us old guys. Good fishing to all. Eddie

So you're saying I need to go fishing more? I think I can make that happen.

So you're saying I need to go fishing more? I think I can make that happen. I can learn a lot more from the "old guys" than you could ever learn from me. My hope is that when I'm an old guy, I'll have something to pass along to the young guys and gals. I'm willing to sacrifice for the good of all. I will fish tomorrow!!!

If these holes prove to be productive maybe build you a length of tippet with a couple of droppers and rig it as a drop shot rig. If these pools are small they could easily be fished with a drop shot and high stick technique. Just a thought.

I was just there and can tell you the holes will be frustrating and fun to learn at the same time. It's going to take patience as some of the best looking seams aren't accessible from the Road side - you'll need to cross the Creek... As you can see from this pic... the holes are wide and deep noted by the still water.... I don't know about depth because i didn't make it all the way to the bottom..... :-) Denny

Here's another shot of Cardiac Hill looking up towards the Dam.... Which you can now see from the Cardiac Hill stream entrance....

Nice looking water, from the pictures I've seen the new Spillway may be an improvement. Hope they make it a Red Zone.

So it looks like the spillway is totally different, and downstream to evening hole bridge is changed. but what about from the bridge down. I often fish below the bridge and along the campgrounds.
Has anyone fished around the bend rv area? where the it shallows out with the sand bars. Not sure what its called. I've been wanting to hit that for several years, maybe this week I will.
