Just looked it up—cool idea, especially in a vintage cigarette vending machine. Of course it would get vandalized and everything stolen. That would be one of my biggest fears of owning a fly shop. I hope Coach has some mega security going on.
A Yeti (that was chained I think) to a post at Headhunters Fly Shop in Craig, MT was stolen—lot of people pissed about that one. Pretty rare for that kind of thing to happen in Craig, but I could see that happening in our neck of the woods.

I really wish I could post the pic. Its just like the snack machine with the coils like you see everywhere. Sucks that thieves and criminals ruin it for everyone.
I'm so ready for the water to cool down so I can at least make a day trip or four

It would get ransacked, smashed, and thrown in the river in Beavers Bend.
ON my Colorado trip, I actually had a guy ask to borrow a few dry flies near a campground. he had never fly fished and only had big ass nymphs. I gave him a few and watched him catch a few small rainbows. I headed downstream. when I got back to my car at darkfall, I had a business card and a $20 and a short thank you note. His granddaughter caught a trout with one of the flies..... cool. I think a vending machine at a place like that would be a hit.

At Beavers Bend, a better idea would be a machine that dispenses power bait, worms, 1/0 treble hooks, and cheap 20 lb mono.

You can dredge plenty of 20lb mono for free just by wading around until it tangles all around your legs, lol. I walked out of the river with probably about 100' of line I collected as I waded around.

I have a pocket in my vest I devote to trash. Sometimes that things stuffed with line when I leave the river. It seems like quite a few visitors really do not give a flying you-know-what.

I’ve collected like 500-600 feet of line, like 40 hooks ranging from size 10 to size 5/0, and lots of trash in one trip on the LIR... it actually made me a little sick in the stomach

I use one of those Fishpond Micro Trashcans attached to my pack/vest. It might be a tad small to collect that much garbage though, haha...

Good ideas. And that was a typo on my part, that should have read yards not feet. Still not that much. Couple nice treble spinners too.

I leave all my trash on the riverbanks. Keystone light cans, cigarette butts, power bait jars, worm boxes, cigarette packs, ziploc bags, meth labs... leave it all

I’m just wondering how you managed to pack a whole meth lab to the river

The more trash we leave, maybe it will drive people to other fisheries....might be on to something there. I am going to have to start hauling trash to the river with me I guess.

Several years ago the Baptism River running into Lake Superior I started down the trail to the mouth of the river. I saw a mono line wrapped around a branch and heading down the trail. I peeled it off the brush all the way to the river mouth and then some, then picked up the spool from the new line he'd wound on. I figure the guy had no idea how to wind a spinning reel and made a twisted mess, got tangled, and hopefully went home. I used to walk up the north shore river for steelhead and salmon a lot and it was very seldom I didn't fill my landing net with trash on the way back. I'd keep it clear going up and then clean up on the way back. No matter where you go there's people who don't care. Rude on the stream or the lake and I've cleaned up many a campsite well back into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We can just do our part to be civil on the water and clean up what we can.
As for fishing in a crowd I spent a lot of days on prime runs up north when it was literally elbow to elbow and you had to coordinate your drifting to fish. When someone hooked up etiquette called for giving the person all the room needed and giving his spot back when fish was landed or lost. This was mostly honored but occasional hackles were raised in those situations.

Elbow to elbow? Wow.....
For me, I would choose to fish another species so I am not in such contact with others. That's me. I like the solitude FF gives me. Thanks for sharing and I never thought to put trash in my net. I will do better.

Smallie/bass fishing usually provides pretty good solitude
