I have not enjoyed slipping my fly rod into the back of my jeep and letting the tip hang out. Or carefully placing the rod between me and my wife in her Suby. I worked on another solution that is fine, but doesn't work when rigged for nymphing. I came across this DIY gem (link below) a few weeks ago and saw Golfer Jeff using the store bought model. Jeff's rod holder convinced me to make one myself. I will attach the link for anyone that wishes to make one. One tip: don't make them any wider than the suction cups plus a couple of cm. Just make them the width of the suction cups and you will be fine. Mine are a touch too wide. Sorry I can't edit image, just looking at the rod holders. currentseams.blogspot.com/2014/10/25-diy-fly-rod-racks.htmlAttachments:

Very neat idea. Will the windshield wipers hit it?

I have the Professor Bodkin rod holder I bought at the fly shop and really like them. Since my Jeep is a hard top I mount them on top. Since yours are double suction they should never come loose. Mine have single cups and have made the trip from the Evening hole to the Charles Wesley several times. rod holder

Nice setup. I have a rack that used to be on my jeep that I'm going to re-install. I'm in the process of building a pvc rod holder right now for my truck and will build another for the jeep. This the only old photo of the rack I could find from years ago.

I'm wanting to do something similar for the canoe racks on my truck.

PVC fittings 8' aluminum u-channel (mounted beneath each piece of pvc in an attempt to stiffen it) Various u-bolts Looks like I will need to: Add an aluminum plate in the bottom of the box to strengthen it. Come up with some cleaner mounting hardware. Develop a clean way to tie the ends together so they aren't bouncing everywhere. Add some foam inside each to protect the rods.

That's pretty much what I'm envisioning. Thanks for the pics!

Only time my equipment is in the truck is when I'm fishing and if somebody wants to come to my house, they are welcome. The dogs are always eager to meet new people and if they don't get them, well....

Very neat idea. Will the windshield wipers hit it? You are one insightful dude. No, the wipers don't work with this. Thoughts: I have a soft top jeep, so I can't use the top of jeep like Turfdog. I do a decent job of keeping my windshield clean, so I am slow to turn on wipers. I am guessing if there is any 'real rain', I am probably heading home with rods in tubes. IDK I have used it one weekend, it worked super. And super convenient.
