The rod is a 1942 South Bend 9', "HDH or D," "Comficient Grip." Essentially a 6-wt, although I'm learning you can go up or down a line size on some of these. Finish is like glass. Feels really sweet in the hand. Can't wait to put a line on and cast it tomorrow!! Can't wait to fish a 75 year old American made bamboo fly rod. I think it will be a sweet caster. They called this action a "dry fly action," with a faster bottom 2 sections and a light tip section. Anyway, comments welcome. Also received a ruffed grouse skin in the mail from Blue Ribbon Fly Shop in West Yellowstone. Can't wait to spin up a few soft hackles!

My wife got me an Orvis Practicaster (should be fun) and my mother-in-law (who was definitely paying attention to me) bought me a dozen flies--6 Parachute Adams and 6 Griffith's Gnats..all in various sizes.

It is a ruffed grouse skin. Not many small feathers apparent, and I'm pretty sure this bird was hunted! It's pretty raw. But cured.
