if anyone has been there and has a guide service or any other tips to recommend please let me know. It’s not the time of year I would have picked but my wife is a concert junkie and there is some band, I think they call themselves Perl Jam, that she got tickets to see there. I want her to have a good great time at the concert but she is also interested in a fishing trip as well so I need this to go well because, well, that’s what I like to do. She can and does fish just not fly fishing. I have fished with the guys at the shop and know the importance of a good guide so that’s what I am really asking for. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a fun trip. Good music and good fishing can’t beat that. Can’t give you any specifics about the fishing bc I haven’t been there myself, but would assume August is gonna be prime time in Montana. Lots of good options fishing wise that time of year. Sure someone will chime in with some better advice.

Thanks dain. I have been to a lot of concerts but this one gets me in the thick of some great fly fishing I have been looking at reviews online but nothing beats hearing from some people from this place.

I'm aware that the Clark Fork and Blackfoot Rivers both can get very warm in late summer in certain years. I don't have any real experience either, but I know that can be an issue.. shouldn't stop you from whacking some trout though.

I have read that and it could make the difference between a full day of fishing and a half day. I'm hoping it is a little cooler when I get there. Thanks for the tip I plan to catch at least one. Even if it has to be at the restaurant.

Coincidentally I am going to an area east of Billings - St Xavier. Fishing the Big Horn and fishing the canyon, or so is being planned. We’ll see. I am going July. I will make a note to return all the fish so you can catch some. I’ve never been there and know little. Watched some video - I am excited.

Todd, if old slim was going to Montana over July he would probably book a place to stay well in advance. Slim doesn't ever camp ........

I think GWB stands for something else. I am weening myself off green wooly buggers this month actually. I am into nymphing these days.

And by nymphing, Todd means BIG nymphs, aka streamers 😬

Todd, take a sharpie and initial the fish you catch and I'll look for that when I net some. I do like those nymphs you are using and will look for some at the shop when I'm down there this Wednesday. .

I haven't fished in Montana, so I have no first-hand experience to share. I have ordered fly tying material from The Kingfisher Fly Shop in Missoula over a period of more than a dozen years. They have been helpful with great customer service. You can look at guide trip info and stream reports on their web site: www.kingfisherflyshop.com/blog/fishing-reports/Tight Lines- Ken
