Let me introduce myself and share the story behind my Avatar? When I was 13, my dad’s fishing buddy gave me a bamboo fly rod, this Thompson fly tying vice and a book on fly tying. He also gave me a Herter’s catalog, which back then, was the “Sears-Roebuck” for everything hunting and fishing. Over the next couple of years, I practiced casting in the front yard and tied hundreds of flies. But, even though my dad and I crappie fished a lot, we never went fly fishing. Fast forward 25 years. My wife and I are newlyweds living in Flagstaff. She loves to fish and we went on a few outings to fish for trout in Oak Creek Canyon. After two years in AZ, we moved to Oklahoma and it would be another 25 years before I had the opportunity to fly fish again. We have fished a lot since being married, especially when the kids were kids. But I never had a chance to break out the fly rod. That all changed when we found out about Beaver’s Bend State Park last Fall and Lower Mountain Fork Trout Fishing. I got to break out my rod and was hooked again. We are looking forward to returning to LMF this fall with my daughter and son-in-law.
